REDDING, Calif. -
The Shasta County Sheriff's Office issued a statement saying the motive behind 6-month-old Ember's disappearance died when Matthew Graham was killed in a shootout with deputies.

The statement also included a statement about the Federal Bureau of Investigation's involvement in the search for Baby Ember. Sgt. Pat Kropholler says that from day one of the investigation, the FBI has been part of the search. They were part of the original canvas team and have a local agent assigned to the CART Team (Child Abduction Response Team).
Ember was reported missing on July 2 by her father, Matthew Graham, from his Happy Valley residence.
Kropholler explained the Sheriff’s Office utilized the resources of the FBI early into the investigation as well as other state and federal agencies. Typically the FBI and other state and federal agencies will assist the Sheriff’s Office anytime they are requested.
"In the case of Ember Graham the sole person of interest in her disappearance still remains with her father, Matthew Graham," Kropholler said in the press release. "The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit has investigated tips received from the public and all other possible angles of a stranger abduction."
"There is no evidence that a third party was involved, including anyone within the family," he said.
Kropholler said Graham’s original inconsistent statement coupled with irrefutable evidence places him in a remote area of Ono during the time frame in which detectives believe Ember went missing.
"The motive of why he abandoned her or what lead to him disposing of her body died with him when he confronted officers with deadly force in Dunsmuir, California after he had carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint," Kropholler stated.
The Sheriff’s Office continues to receive tips from the public offering “investigative ideas” rather than actual investigative leads. The Sheriff's Office is asking the public to limit tips to actual leads, not ideas that can waste precious resources and time.
Kropholler said several of these ideas are pushing for the Sheriff's Office to investigate Ember’s mother and other family members, even though they've been eliminated as suspects.
Several planned searches for Ember have been conducted in the Cloverdale, Clear Creek, Igo and Ono areas utilizing law enforcement searchers, Shasta County Sheriff Search and Rescue Teams, Dive Team members, search dog teams, and civilian organized search parties at no avail, Kropholler said.
He added that the case will remain with the Sheriff’s Office as the lead investigative agency at this time, and as new information is developed, the Sheriff's Office may ask for assistance from other local, state or federal agencies if needed.
The investigation is still continuing and anyone with information leading to the whereabouts of Ember is asked to contact the Shasta County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit at 530-245-6135 or Sheriff’s Records at 530-245-6025.

Thoughts? Kind of ironic that Shane Miller who killed his family was also from Shasta County. I hate to sound morbid but as the article hinted this really doesn't seem like a find a missing child case but find her body case. The fact that Matthew chose to get in a shootout pretty much unfortunately only reinforces that. I hope I'm wrong. But if I'm right, Ember still deserves to be found and given a proper burial.
