BERDEEN, Md. —Police are searching for a man who they said shot an officer in the face in Aberdeen early Friday morning.
According to Aberdeen police, the officer was flown to Shock Trauma, where he is stable. Aberdeen police Sgt. C. William Reiber said the officer will require surgery to his eye.
The 10-year veteran of the force was shot around 3 a.m. while talking to a potential victim in a wooded area behind a house in the 500 block of Ohio Court. Reiber said the suspect fired a long gun at the officer.
"The officer was actually outside the property because of this potential threat and was standing in a position where he would have been vulnerable for multiple directions. At that time, there was a loud boom that was heard, the officer sustained an injury to his face and that injury right now is being treated," Reiber said.
Police are looking for Tyler Scott Testerman, 21, saying he is armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about him is asked to call 911, or Aberdeen police at 410-272-2121.
"At this time, the search is multifaceted. We're using resources from not only our agency. We have all of our resources devoted now to the apprehension of Tyler Testerman. We are also working with our allied partners -- the Harford County Sheriff's Office, the Maryland State Police -- it's an all-hands-on-deck situation where we're obviously trying to locate him as fast as we can," Reiber said.
Harford County Public Schools said some schools in Aberdeen will remain closed Friday. Those schools include George Lisby at Hillsdale Elementary, Hall's Cross Roads Elementary, Bakerfield Elementary, Aberdeen Middle and Aberdeen High schools.
