Edwin Rangel a.k.a. "Vago," and "Terko," is the last of four homicide suspects most wanted for the killing of 15-year-old Eduardo Aranda of Escondido, California. Already arrested were Osiel Reyes, age 18, Nestor Garcia, 17 and Eliud Eduardo Rangel, 16. All suspects are charged with homicide, and it is alleged that Nestor Garcia, 17, was the triggerman who fired a .22-caliber revolver and killed Eduardo Aranda. Furthermore, the three defendants apprehended have pleaded not guilty, however, Edwin Rangel still remains at-large.
On June 28, 2008, witnesses told Escondido Police that a red compact car drove near a group of juveniles who were walking northbound on Spruce Street near 7th Avenue. Several shots were fired from the car, and one bullet struck Aranda resulting in a fatal wound. When police arrived, officers performed CPR on Aranda until Escondido Fire Paramedics arrived, but the 15-year-old victim died at the crime scene. Escondido homicide investigators were able to determine that the four suspected killers who committed the drive-by shooting, and the three youths were arrested. The Escondido Police are now asking for the public's assistance in finding the fourth alleged killer, Edwin Rangel.
Moreover, the shooting is believed to be gang related. Edwin Rangel is a known member of the Escondido Varrio Diablos or "EVD," one of the four criminal street gangs that traffic Escondido. Additionally, these four gangs are named, Diablos, Westside, Santos and Eastside, have notably caused enough trouble to assemble the local citizens of Escondido to rid their community of those gangs corruptive influence and activity.
