CrimeWatchDaily is doing a wonderful public service by airing stories on unsolved cases, similar to what America's Most Wanted did. The problem is that while plenty of missing person and unsolved murders have been aired (and there's nothing wrong with that), only three major segments on fugitives have been done so far (Harold Knight, Dan Hiers and Jason Derek Brown).
As we've seen with FOX, Lifetime, CNN and the Justice Network, airing dangerous fugitives on TV can result in their apprehension thanks to tips to the public and they are the easiest types of cases for the public to help solve. Missing people and unsolved crimes while they need to be resolved, are not as easy to solve as we saw with AMW. It's sadly not like there's a shortage of dangerous fugitives that could be aired, especially since The Hunt is at this point limited to eight episodes per year. And with the very positive ratings for The Hunt, people do not mind seeing fugitive stories being featured at the same amount compared to other types of unsolved cases.

The problem is we might be mistaking Crime Watch Daily as a daily digest version of AMW when in reality it's more a daily digest version of a show like Dateline or 48 Hours. They are essentially a crime magazine show that covers crime in the news but will also do unsolved cases (unknown killers, missing, and even fugitives count as unsolved cases since their whereabouts haven't been solved yet and they're technically missing.) I think Crime Watch Daily is even technically classified as a news show and not a crime show- I call it a Crime Show both since it has crime in it's frigging title and so we can have more content for our site- but technically it's recognized as a news show.
The show does well in the ratings for what it is- consistently it has like 0.8, 0.9- not a world-beater, but the best rated of the new syndicated shows this year. Considering this is daytime tv, it likely has a very good chance on renewal based on that.
It is an interesting experiment and perhaps one day there can be more of a daily version of AMW. I think a fugitive-themed daily crime show would do great ratings, and perhaps if that's what Crime Watch Daily went for instead of general crime with some unsolved and missing mixed in my theory would hold up, but I still enjoy watching the show.
It is disappointing though we still don't have a show like AMW. The Hunt is great but has a limited format. Justice Network is great but not everyone gets it and is also somewhat limited. (Just 30 second PSA's, limited amount of fugitives or missing shown nationally (plenty locally). And Crime Watch Daily is good but is mainly a news show that also shows unsolved cases as opposed to focusing on the unsolved with news mixed in. So there is still yet to be a court of last resort on tv. One can argue we have a bunch of little stuff adding up, but there needs to be some type of breaking news consistent fugitive show again for people to keep track of as opposed to everything being jumbled into different places.

They actually had a new fugitive case today even I hadn't heard of (Peter Chadwick, Orange County, CA millionaire accused of murdering his wife). I will make a thread later on tonight.
