Jeri Woods is wanted by the US Marshals for her alleged role in the double homicide of two teenage boys in Gary, Indiana. The case is tragic, bizarre, and convoluted, so while it's hard to find an article that describes everything about the case, I'll post the article below that I felt best describes it:
"Police said Thursday it appears a 16-year-old boy was not involved in any of the conflicts his 18-year-old brother had with several family members charged with kidnapping the brothers and fatally shooting them last summer at a wooded Hobart property.
The owner of the 38-acre property at 7030 Grand Blvd. called 911 July 17 and said two skeletonized bodies had been found along a path there, Hobart police Lt. James Gonzales said.
Authorities later identified Arreon T. Lackey, 18, and Antonio D. Lackey, 16, through dental records, Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey said. They each died from a single gunshot wound to the head, Gonzales said.
The Lackey brothers had been reported missing July 6 and were last seen at a Merrillville hotel room June 26, Lake Criminal Court records state.
Surveillance video showed the brothers were led from the hotel room without their shoes into two different vehicles, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Seven people were charged Tuesday in connection with the brothers' homicides.
Aarion J. Greenwood, 17, David "Dooney" Johnson V, 19, Kiontay L. Cason, 21, David Johnson III, 62, Jeri L. Woods, 33, and David "Pops" Johnson IV, 37, and Michelle F. Hughes, 26, of Lake Station. Greenwood, the Johnsons and Woods are part of the same family.
The defendants had a dispute with Arreon Lackey because they believed he sold a .38-caliber revolver given to him by David Johnson IV after someone shot at Arreon Lackey and Johnson's son, Aarion Greenwood, in early May in Gary's Aetna neighborhood, court records say. The Johnsons also believed Arreon Lackey had led Aarion Greenwood astray because the two of them shot a 19-year-old friend of their family May 26 in Gary's Miller section, the affidavit says.
It appears Antonio Lackey was in the wrong place at the wrong time, Hobart police Lt. James Gonzales said.
"There's no indication to me that the brother (Antonio Lackey) was involved with anything other than being in the hotel room at the same time," he said.
The evidence indicates the brothers were walked into the woods on the Hobart property and shot there, he said. A home on the property is vacant, and there were no reports of shots fired at the time, Gonzales said.
The property is owned by a relative of one of the seven suspects, he said.
Andrew Mitchell, the father of Arreon and Antonio Lackey, said he was happy charges were filed in the case.
"My sons trusted this family, and it's a shame," he said. "They betrayed my sons."
Mitchell said Arreon Lackey and Aarion Greenwood were at one time so close they "were like thick and thin."
"It still hurts," he said.
Mitchell said he and his family wanted to thank the community for its support. He also thanked police — especially Hobart's Lt. James Gonzales and Detective Nicholas Wardrip and Merrillville Detective Joshua Gonzales — for the hundreds of hours they put into the case.
Lt. James Gonzales said the boys' mother and stepfather, Tia and Julian Moore, also thanked the community for its support and police for their efforts.
Cason, Greenwood and Woods remained at large Thursday, police said.
The U.S. Marshal's Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force has been asked to help locate the three suspects, police said. Anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to call (800) 805-6119 or their local police or text "capture" to Tip411.
David Johnson V, David Johnson III and David Johnson IV were taken into custody Tuesday when police executed a search warrant at a home in the 700 block of North Henry Street in Miller, police said. They're being held without bond.
Hughes was already in custody on an unrelated charge.
Hughes, David Johnson V and David Johnson III had their initial hearings Wednesday, according to court records. Hughes and David Johnson V requested public defenders. David Johnson III is expected to hire a private attorney.
David Johnson V and David Johnson III will make their formal appearances Oct. 8 before Lake Criminal Judge Diane Boswell. Hughes will appear in front of Boswell for her formal appearance Oct. 9.
Information about David Johnson IV's upcoming court hearings was not available.
Thoughts? For those wondering, the other two fugitives in the case, Kiontay Cason and Aarion Greenwood have since been captured. Jeri Woods is the only remaining fugitive in this case. This is a pretty cold-blooded case, it took a lot of planning, and while obviously neither brother deserved to die, it should be stressed Antonio who had nothing to do with this was also killed so these seven people didn't just allegedly kill for revenge. Woods should be considered very dangerous. However, if you know where she is, do the right thing and call authorities. The number I found in the Tribune article that I posted above promises you can remain anonymous.
