Oscar Garrido Morales, profiled on AMW's old website, is wanted for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Yolanda Jarquin. Although I no longer have a full-archive, I was able to retrieve a partial archive description of the case. Please keep in mind the archive starts partially cut off and ends partially cut off:
"a single mother had met Oscar Morales nearly four years earlier at a mall in Hesperia, California. At first Morales seemed sincere, caring and generous. He expressed interest in Yolanda and her faith as a Jehova's Witness and when the couple dated he attended church with her. Even fellow Witnesses were also dazzled by Morales' charm. However, time exposed Morales true colors. Yolanda's family said Morales wasn't really the person he portrayed himself to be. Cops say Morales worked at a restaurant and frequently used drugs at the camper he and a friend called home. After several months of dating Yolanda ended the relationship. For Morales, the pain of the break up festered into an obsession that ultimately turned deadly.
He began stalking Yolanda, showing up at her workplace and continually called her at both work and home. Desperate he even tried to sweet talk his way back into Yolanda's life by asking her parents to intervene and speak to their daughter on his behalf. According to Yolanda's sister she wasn t interested in reuniting with him. Yolanda's sister also said Yolanda didn't think he was capable of harming her. Then an incident in the summer of 2006 revealed the magnitude of Morales obsession. According to family members. Morales had broken into Yolanda's house and hid inside a closet. He emerged when Yolanda and her young son returned home. With a knife in his hand and claiming to have a gun under his coat family members recalled that Morales told Yolanda he was going to kill himself. After an intense standoff that lasted several hours deputies convinced Morales to surrender.
More than a year later in October 2007 police say Morales was up to his old antics but this time he turned out to be lethal. Morales showed up at Yolanda's home a few days after she returned from a weekend getaway. Furious at his ex-girlfriend Morales exploded into a rage. The couple argued which quickly escalated into a fierce fight. Cops say Morales beat Yolanda to death then covered her body with a mound of blankets and left her to rot in the hot desert heat. When Yolanda's body wasn't found cops say Morales returned to her house a few days later intent on drawing cops to the crime scene. Morales kicked multiple gas lines until they broke and gas seeped into the house. He then lit a broiler and candles determined to set the house ablaze. However, Morales plan didn't work because the logic of his criminal mind was flawed. The low lying candles didn't spark an explosion as Morales anticipated because the gas rose and dissipated. Morales then called a friend and after confessing to murdering Yolanda he told him to call the cops. Morales also told the friend that he had been deported back to his native"
Thoughts? Unfortunately the archive cut off so I'm not sure what Morales native country is. What I do know is Morales has defied logic by staying on the run so long and the only explanation is he's in a small town or village in his native country. Based on the idiotic way he tried to cover up his crime, Morales is obviously not a criminal mastermind. Yet somehow he's stayed on the run for 8 years already. It goes to show as much as we talk about intelligent fugitives and how their wits keep them on the run, sometimes it's not a matter of intelligence but rather luck. And unfortunately, Morales has been incredibly lucky so far. Hopefully, one day his luck will run out.
