Hernandez Thought To Be Too Fond Of Eighth-Grader Who Vanishes
Thirteen-year-old Ana Acevedo lived with her father Laurencio Acevedo in the quiet neighborhood of Castle Hayne, North Carolina. He describes his daughter as a straight-A student.
Their neighbor, 24-year-old Victor Velasco Hernandez, was accused by Ana's father of being too fond of 13-year-old Ana. Mr. Acevedo warned Hernandez to keep his distance from Ana.
On the night of January 2, 2005 Ana went to bed early. She was excited to return to school after the winter break. Ana never got to class that Monday. Police believe she may have been abducted Sunday night.
Mr. Acevedo came home from working the night shift at 6 a.m. Monday morning. He went into Ana's room to wake her up for school only to find that Ana was not in her bed. He immediately called police to report Ana missing.
The Search Begins--With A Suspect
When Ana disappeared Mr. Acevedo, along with authorities, started to take a look at Victor Hernandez. Ana's father claims that Victor used to stare at Ana. Although Mr. Acevedo told Victor to stop, it seems he didn't. Suspiciously, Hernandez disappeared at the same time as Ana.
Authorities believe that Victor could have taken Ana to Mexico or Florida, where he has relatives.
Warrant Out For Alleged Abductor
Although police have not charged Hernandez with Ana's abduction there is a warrant for his arrest. He is charged with first degree rape of a child stemming from an incident in May 2004 that is not related to Ana's disappearance, although this case is. Cops are concerned Ana's safety.
Ana is a 13-year-old Hispanic girl with brown hair and brown eyes. She stands at 5'4" and weighs 130 lbs. She was last seen in Castle Hayne, North Carolina at her home.
Thoughts? The above was from the AMW archives. This case was aired on the July 11th, 2005 episode of America's Most Wanted. I no longer see Ana on the Charley Project, so I'm assuming she may have been recovered. However, Victor Hernandez was wanted for rape regardless and I see no indication he was caught as of this posting date. (11/2/2015). Because of that, I'm going to take a chance. If he isn't wanted anymore, please e-mail us with proof and let us know. The full archive no longer lists height weight etc. so we could use that info too.
