www.tvguide.com/News/John-Walsh-Investigates-Lifetime-CNN-1063837.aspxThis is really sad. TV Guide has an exclusive interview with John Walsh, in which he discusses his options. It also mentions something we've expected, to carry AMW, Lifetime had to pay heavy licensing fees to Fox. Walsh says he's likely moving on from AMW to a new brand in which he'd have more control, and has a meeting to be a talking head on CNN, and discusses the possibility of a "hybrid show". Walsh does say he hopes the brand name continues elsewhere. To me, it sounds like whether America's Most Wanted comes back or not, it might be with a new host. (one can only hope if this happens, it's a much better choice than Dennis Farina replacing Robert Stack on Unsolved Mysteries). It would take a hard time getting used to, but as long as the mission continues I hope his son Callahan or EIC Roger Chiang can continue the show. It's also been mentioned that the Connected To The Case website has a lot of former AMW staff and is planning to launch a tv show. www.prnewswire.com/news-releases-test/law-enforcement-professionals-and-former-production-team-of-americas-most-wanted-employ-social-media-with-connected-to-the-case-201916151.htmlA show with the same concept as AMW but with a different name would also take getting used to, but I'm sure we'd just happy to see fugitives aired weekly again. Whether Mr. Walsh comes back or not, a big thank you to him for his 25 seasons as host of the show.

Ultimately if some form of AMW returns, I'll be happy.

I think despite the licensing fees, the amw name brand is important though.

Also, as we've discussed, the odd part of all of this is the website still recognizing direct captures.

And here's media bistro on the John Walsh-CNN scenario. It admits CNN would be an odd fit, but perhaps a similar crime show by Walsh could be done. Perhaps a more news story-oriented as opposed to re-enactment based type of AMW? www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/americas-most-wanted-on-cnn_b174773MSNBC's weekend is filled with a lot of crime magazine-esque shows. If America's Most Wanted itself and not just a hybrid somehow wound up on CNN, I'd just be happy to see it back, but admittedly, it would be a even more bizarre choice than Lifetime was imo.

The thing about Walsh appearing on CNN is that Nancy Grace already does a crime-news television show on the division known as Headline News (HLN). So if it would be a Mon-Fri show on CNN then it couldn't be aired at the same time as Nancy Grace. It would work if it was a Saturday or Sunday night show.

The weekend is the only place where there's room imo. They're obviously not going to get rid of Anderson Cooper or Piers Morgan for him. I see CNN not having a lot of space so I'm not sure where Walsh would fit besides the weekends. A talking head on Anderson Cooper once a week isn't going to capture the bad guys. HLN is in the same division, but much like A&E owns Lifetime, kind of a separate entity.

A few more thoughts on CNN and John Walsh's appearance on CBS this morning: As I've said, I don't care if AMW winds up on Animal Planet. No matter the channel, I will watch it, and so will others. But the irony of if America's Most Wanted and not just a hybrid show winds up on the channel is that AMW will go from a show in limbo to a network in limbo. Growing up as a little kid, CNN was the only news channel, one of the original cable channels, and was one of the most recognized names in news. Now it is the third place news network behind Fox News Channel and MSNBC and even HLN which is supposed to be a "sister" network outperforms it in some time slots. I think even Lifetime outperforms it. CNN is struggling and their new network President is trying to turn it around. Still, CNN is seen in not just America but other countries and has a broad international reach. Canadian fans don't have to worry about not seeing it. I take it CNN might not be able to show tons of reruns like Lifetime did since there are plenty of other programs, but it would be more reachable to international AMW fans. I really hope if Walsh winds up there, it's AMW and not just a hybrid. Although seeing crime re-enactments on CNN of all places would be extremely bizarre. Hopefully though, they will feel they need AMW just as much as AMW needs them. It couldn't hurt to make a difference. Also, John Walsh chose CBS this morning, hosted by Gayle King for his first post-cancellation on-camera interview. For those who don't know, Gayle King is Oprah Winfrey's best friend. I am hoping perhaps this might be a sign. OWN is struggling to establish itself despite Oprah's dominance when she had her daytime talk show. It doesn't come into as many households and is often buried deep down on cable lineups (it's channel 100-something on my cable company's lineup), but AMW is a name brand that could make the network. And heck, the licensing fee costs shouldn't be a problem for Oprah, who with her all her zillions could just buy Fox herself. Ok, not THAT rich, but pretty rich. Once again, this is just me speculating and there's no proof AMW is an option for OWN. But I wouldn't complain if AMW wound up there since at least it would be on tv again, although it would also mean I'd owe kingroman an apology.

So this might be mean but today I was thinking to myself, "If AMW winds up on CNN, how will we know if a direct capture is claimed the suspect is really captured?" LOL. I'd be happy for AMW to wind up on any channel as I have said 7 zillion times, but that "Boston suspect in custody" this past Wednesday was very embarrassing for them before the actual suspects were taken down.

I assume wherever AMW winds up the 1-800-Crime-TV hotline would be kept (although I would wonder myself if JWI and AMW were on different networks whether it would be used for both shows since JWI will at least have missing children cases based on its pilot)
