10 years after Shasta Groene was abducted and her mother, stepfather and two brothers were murdered, she has given an interview with a local news outlet. Shasta and her brother, Dylan, were abducted in May 2005 by Joseph Duncan, after he killed her three other family members. The two were taken on the run where they were raped repeatedly by Duncan. Dylan was killed, but Shasta was found alive.
In the 13-minute interview, Shasta reveals that her teenage years were a struggle. She got drunk for the first time when she was 12, and became a meth addict at 14. Last year she served 12 months in a juvenile detention facility, where she got her life straightened out. She and her boyfriend are now expecting a baby, and Shasta said that she wants to be thought of as a survivor and is working to inspire other victims to come forward and speak out.
I have to say, this is a powerful interview to watch. She was forced to grow up at such a young age (she was only 8 when she was abducted) and it's so good to see that her life is now back on track.
