Article from 1996:
"Prosecutors have charged a fugitive with the shooting death of a mother of five children.
Mario Peraza-Armenta faces one count of murder, a first-degree felony, for killing Diane Purper, 39, on Feb. 3. Police issued a $1 million arrest warrant for the man but believe he may have fled to Sinaloa, Mexico, his hometown.Peraza-Armenta, 22, also known by seven other names, including Manuelillo Valenzuela, allegedly fired as many as six shots at Purper after a minor traffic altercation near the I-15 on-ramp at 500 South, according to the charges filed Tuesday in 3rd Circuit Court.
Fred Jensen, the sole passenger in Purper's car, told police a carload of people pulled up behind them as he and Purper waited at a red light. The car began honking and Jensen said he leaned out the window, waved the driver around and mouthed the words, "Go ahead."
As the carload of people passed Purper, gunshots rang out, striking the woman in her upper body. She slumped back against the seat, lost consciousness and died at LDS Hospital.
Four days later, detectives acting on a tip arrested Jose Natane Armento-Corrales, 17, who was a passenger in the car during the shooting. Armento-Corrales said Peraza-Armenta, who was driving at the time, "got mad at the man and woman in the car ahead" of them, passed the car and fired several times through an open window at Purper and Jensen, the charges state. Jensen was not injured.
Armento-Corrales also told an officer he later heard Peraza-Armenta "bragging that he had killed the woman in the car," according to the charges.
Two other females in the suspect car, Jamie Prescott, 18, and an unidentified 15-year-old, were arrested last week and released from jail and detention, respectively.
Detectives also questioned a 12-year-old boy who was also in the car driven by Peraza-Armenta during the shooting. "We should know later today what charges, if any, will be filed against the other people," said Lt. John Hodson.
Meanwhile, officials are holding Armento-Corrales on unrelated drug charges. They could not hold the other passengers in the car for more than three business days without any charges.
Detectives believe Jensen might have shouted something at the carload of people, although Jensen says he only waved the vehicle past them while the two cars were stopped at a red light.
Peraza-Armenta has been arrested twice before for carrying a concealed gun and possession of cocaine and heroin but was released from jail because of overcrowded conditions, according to court files."
Thoughts? The above is an admittedly old article but one that describes a case that according to a long-time AMW viewer- has been on the show. Based on the article and mugshots.com, Peraza-Armenta would be around 41 years old today. Would love for someone to bring this case back into the forefront again and do an age-enhanced photo of Peraza-Armenta.
