Cops: Woman Gunned Down By Her Ex-Boyfriend
On April 13, 2008, 25-year-old Rufina Granados-Gutierrez was driving to work with her sister and brother-in-law when she noticed someone following them.
Cops say Rufinia told them that her ex-boyfriend, Hedilberto "Eddie" Rodriguez, was behind them in his truck. They stopped briefly at Rufina's boyfriend's apartment, according to police, and she ran inside.
When she returned, cops say she told her sister that she had seen the truck again in the apartment complex parking lot. They continued on to the Habaneros Mexican Restaurant in Gardendale, Ala., where they worked, but when they arrived -- police say Rodriguez was waiting in parking lot.
Rufina told her brother-in-law to go inside, but her sister waited outside, according to police.
Rodriguez said "Come here," and cops say Rufina walked over to the truck. Police say he then asked her to get inside the truck, and she refused. That’s when cops say he pulled out a handgun and set it on the passenger seat, telling her he’d shoot her if she didn't get in.
Cops say they began to argue and a few minutes later, Rufina walked away. But when she did, police say Rodriguez shot her several times and fled in his truck.
Rufina died at the scene.
Fugitive Abandons Truck In Florida
A few days later, police found Rodriguez's truck near Tampa, Fla., and the U.S. Marshals say he may have headed to Mexico – where he possibly has a grandmother. But he’s also got family in Birmingham, Ala.; northern Alabama and Tennessee.
Thoughts? The above was the AMW archive description for this case. Rodriguez was profiled as a web-exclusive fugitive on AMW's old website.
UPDATE: The most recent article I could find on this case referencing Rodrgiuez as still-at-large was from 2011. As far as I can tell, he is still wanted as of this update (7/22/2018). However, if anyone has any updates/proof-of-updates one way or the other, they are always more than welcome to let us know.
