Hello, and welcome to the newest section of amwfans.com. Basically, we're a site mainly devoted to discussing/sleuthing bad guys being sought by law enforcement, and there is nothing we love more than seeing bad guys being caught and held accountable for their actions. However, we're also about fairness and making sure the right men and women are convicted and sent to prison as well. As a result we've created a section to discuss cases being worked on by various Innocence Projects across the country. It is important to note these cases will be posted for discussion purposes. Although we may post our thoughts as to whether we think a convict in the case is innocent or guilty the main goal is just to discuss the cases and whether or not we think the legal system has failed. A person's case getting posted here does not necessarily mean we think the person is innocent or guilty (unless me or another poster says otherwise).
Also, here are some ground rules.
1. Only staff members can post a case. This is the only time I will ever do this with any section of the forum. Anyone who registers can usually post their fugitive, missing child, unsolved murder case whenever and wherever they want. The problem is if we did that here then every Tom, Dick, and Harry could register and make a post about how their parent, cousin, brother, neighbor, hairdresser, etc. is not guilty without any articles to back it up and that's not what this section should be about. We don't want a flood of people making claims and want to focus on the cases with the best evidence that a convict may be innocent- which is done when they are properly researched by staff.
2. Anyone, however, can submit a case request of someone they believe may have been wrongfully convicted for staff to profile, however, it MUST be a case that a state Innocence Project is currently working on and there must be proof on either their website or in news articles that the Innocence Project is working on the case. The reasoning is sort of the reason for why only staff can post cases. In addition, it makes us feel a lot more comfortable if a legitimate agency such as them believes in the convict's innocence.
EDIT/UPDATE: I realize now I may have created a bit of a problem when it comes to people wanting cases profiled and there actually is proof of an Innocence Project behind the person convicted. So from now on, the new policy is that if you would like to post a case but are not a moderator, you could always post it in the off-topic section of our forum (which can be found by scrolling down to the bottom of the main page- amwfans.com) and as long as there's proof of Innocence Project backing, I could move it to the Innocence Project section for you.
EDIT UPDATE #2: I also now realize there are some non-Innocent Project cases that may be interesting as well. As a result, non-Innocence Project but controversial conviction cases can be requested and/or posted by anyone in off-topic for approval to be moved to this section, HOWEVER, they must fit one of these two crtieria:
1. A newsmagazine show such as 20/20, Dateline NBC did an entire episode about the convict trying to prove his/her innocence (the episode has to be about the convict trying to prove innocence, not just an episode about an overall murder case that simply mentions the convict and/or convict's lawyers claiming innocence and/or only covers the convict's trial without the innocence angle).
2. There are multiple news articles over a period of years about the convict trying to prove his/her innocence. Not just one or two, but multiple over the years to show an ongoing controversy.
Thanks for reading. If you would like to submit a case request of someone you feel may have been wrongfully convicted that has proof of an Innocence Project backing, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form
