It may not be public, but I think the FBI received something which prompted his addition to the list. One thing that there isn't solid evidence of, at least in my opinion, is that he is in Europe. None of the sightings are credible.

Good point. The Hunt airing did admittedly seem to generate decent leads and actually did lead to the arrest of a different cold case fugitive in Mexico. And of course there was the infamous Alabama John Doe which turned out to not be Bishop. Unfortunately, a lot of good leads but false hopes dashed.

I know Africa has been thrown out there by the FBI as to where Bishop may be, but I actually wouldn't debunk that yet.
Bishop served in Botswana and Ethiopia and there is a slim chance he's there. I brought up Africa, because the French speaking North African countries like Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia seem like very exotic destinations during the 1970s and even today.
Morocco stands out amongst the North African nations as a potential destination because it just looks more exotic. Algeria and Tunisia are very exotic as well but they are recovering from the affects of the Arab Spring in 2011.
Its a destination where I think Bishop would go to and people wouldn't suspect he's there and also there is a European population that speaks French, Spanish and Italian so he's got himself covered.

I don't think the FBI has debunked it and has mentioned Botswana as a possibility at least. I personally don't see it, but I guess you never know.

Africa wouldn't seem like an obvious choice for a white American to disappear. Botswana certainly has a sizeable white population, but it is a close-knit community I think.

To me North Africa or even the south European island nation of Malta make sense because the sweltering heat in the summer time would give Bishop a tan that'll make him blend in and he'd be completely unnoticed and unrecognizable and because there is a small French & Spanish European population, in North Africa. Malta is very decent in terms of weather and English is the 2nd language that is spoken there because many U.K. Fugitives tend to go there and hide. Also I feel Bishop would like to be somewhere lavish and exotic, where at least he can roam around like a vagabond.

How about Spain, that place is crawling with fugitives.

How about Spain, that place is crawling with fugitives. Spain has been mentioned on the forum and i stress the fact that its rarely mentioned in news sources and crime shows, when in fact Bishop speaks Spanish too.

Chris Ponce was captured in Spain. Obviously an entirely different type of case and fugitive, but it would be unique if there was more than one capture in the country from The Hunt's first season of fugitives.

Bishop could even disguise himself as a British expat in Spain.

The FBI removals of Mogilevich, Godwin and Gerena were necessary, but Bishop is still somewhat a recent case on the Top Ten list at 3 years and tips have been coming in really well. However I do see the fact that if Bishop's tip game starts to go downhill, he'll be the next fugitive to be removed.

Not an update but I'm making Bishop my case of the Week for a little and then moving on to another case, as I've had myself on display for the past week.

I did some digging around and I found that Bishop was aired on "Aktenzeichen XY … ungelöst", (the German equivalent of America's Most Wanted/ The Hunt) on November 6, 1992, which was the date of the 250th episode since the program debuted on October 20, 1967.
Basically in the episode they got the word out about Bishop and the possibility of him living abroad. I truly find this astonishing because this airing was before the 1994 Basel, Switzerland sighting and also because Germany and Bishop never really go together when discussing this case as he doesn't speak German, but it would be interesting in itself that he gets caught or is found deceased there.
Personally I'd like to take a peek at the episode since I speak a little bit of German lol.

Nice find. Do you have the link? Considering all the European sightings it doesn't entirely surprise me that Bishop was featured on a German version of AMW. He is the only guy that rivals Jason Brown as far as unlimited possibilities in the country and world as far as potential whereabouts. Perhaps even more so since I don't see JDB living in Botswana lol.
