Saul Cervantes Gallegos, aired on the July 11th, 2009 episode of America's Most Wanted, is wanted for allegedly murdering his wife. Below is the full archived description from AMW's old website:
SF Cops: Wife's Death Ruled Homicide, Husband Charged
The San Francisco Police Department has named Saul Cervantes Gallegos as the suspect in the death of his estranged wife of ten years, Maria Lourdes Tamayo-Gomez.
Gallegos, 36, was previously considered a person of interest in the case. Authorities haven’t located him since Maria’s death.
Cops say they have good reason to suspect that Gallegos is capable of murder. In March 2008, he pleaded guilty to battery charges against Maria.
Gallegos was ordered to stay away from his wife and attend counseling sessions, but Gallegos never showed up for his sentencing or classes.
At some point after that, cops say Gallegos was deported to Mexico. When he made his way back into the United States, he persuaded Maria to get back together with him, defying the judge’s orders to keep away.
Soon, Gallegos and Maria separated again and Maria found a new relationship, but detectives say that only increased Gallegos’ abuse and threats.
Maria was dropped off at her San Francisco apartment by her boyfriend on the morning of June 14, 2009. She was found dead by her landlord later that day after being notified that Maria hadn’t picked up her three children.
Officials say the medical examiner ruled her death a homicide.
Cops can place Gallegos at his brother’s home in nearby Antioch, Calif. shortly after Maria’s murder. According to detectives, Gallegos told his brother in Spanish he had done something to his wife.
Police say Gallegos left hand written notes expressing his concern about the welfare of kids and how he wished they could be with him. Authorities have since placed the children in protective custody.
Cops believe Gagellos gathered his belongings and split right after seeing his brother in Antioch. They say Gallegos likely went south. Gallegos is a native of Mexico, and cops received tips that he had crossed the border into Tijuana.
They now say he is probably hiding out in a small town somewhere in Mexico, but they are not sure where.
Thoughts? I assume the cause of death is being withheld for investigative purposes. One thing I notice is a trend especially with cold-case fugitives from California of Hispanic descent- and that is they either go to Mexico or they hide in relative plain sight still in California. So in my opinion- while Gallegos has not been on the run as long as some others- these are the two most likely scenarios- 1) He's in Mexico. A small village or Tijuana where he was supposedly last seen. This is the most likely. or 2.) In my opinion, there's a slight chance he could be in Southern California. Still in the state, but far enough away from the crime scene to not get noticed.
P.S. I am assuming Gallegos is still at large as of this posting date (10/10/2015) since I've seen no proof otherwise. If anyone has proof otherwise, please feel free to let us know.
