Phillip Donovan is a cold case fugitive and prison escapee from Florida. He was on AMW's old website as a web-exclusive case. Below is the archived description:
Hostile Robbery Takes Violent Turn
On April 11, 1964, Phillip Donovan barged into a Miami Beach hotel, looking out for number one. He pulled a gun on the hotel's clerk, demanding as much cash as they had on hand. But when the clerk refused to fork over the money, Donovan promptly shot the man in the head, right between the eyes. The clerk didn't stand a chance.
Once Donovan was caught, neither did he.
After his conviction on murder and armed robbery charges, Donovan went directly to prison. He was eventually transferred to the Bradenton Work Release Center -- but on January 20, 1982, he decided he'd had enough with the penal system and made a break for it.
It's been nearly thirty years and Donovan's been on the run ever since, living the life of a free man.
Now, thanks to a new law enforcement initiative made up of the Fla. Dept. of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Fla. Dept. of Corrections (FDOC) and the Fla. Police Chiefs Assoc. (FPCA), they hope to bring an end to Donovan's years on the lam.
Fla. Cops Vow To Take Down Murderer
Phillip Donovan's now in his 70s, and he's not getting any younger. Cops haven't heard from him in quite some time, and though there's a possibility he may have passed away, they think he's still alive and laying low.
In his hay day, Donovan served in the U.S. Army in a clerical/administrative position. He'd also found work in the day labor realm as a shipping clerk, delivery man and farm hand. For a brief time, he even worked as a bartender in California.
Donovan loves sports, including softball, baseball, swimming, and shooting pool. He also loves going to the movies, though his favorite films are unknown.
He has relatives in New York City, and is actually a suspect in a number of other violent crimes that have taken place there.
Authorities have confirmed sightings of Donovan in Miami and the Belle Glades areas of Florida, though they've never been able to catch up with him.
Thoughts? The problem I see here is Donovan seems like a crafty fugitive that could easily find employment in a normal job and hide in plain sight. There seems to have good tips on him in Florida and New York though.
