Continuing my Unsolved Mysteries fugitives, Philip Breen is wanted for several counts of fraud and embezzlement. Breen was the president of a highly successful mortgage company located in Detroit. He was able to purchase mortgages for the company. His success led him to buy several luxury toys, including boats, vacation homes, and new cars. Breen also purchased the Orlando Juice baseball team for about 3/4 of a million dollars. The team was part of a franchise from the Senior Professional Baseball Association, a league built around retired ball players. Within a year, Breen had invested more than $2 million in the team, even though many thought it was doomed to fail. While he really wanted to build the franchise up, the pressure caused him to spend more money, and according to his family, he began drinking heavily. While he was on vacation, Breen's mortgage company discovered that they'd been servicing loans to companies that did not exist, loans that Breen had purchased. Suspecting him of embezzlement, they contacted Breen to straighten things out. Breen told his wife he'd been the victim of people selling false mortgages, but that he could straighten it out. A few days later, while stating he was heading to work, Breen packed his bags and fled. It was revealed that Breen had set up about 100 fake loans, netting him more than $10 million, all of which to fund his extravagant lifestyle. The FBI revealed that Breen had served time 12 years prior for fraud and embezzlement. His wife divorced him, but still had to sell almost everything to cover his debts. Breen hasn't be seen since. What do you guys think? His daughter claimed on the UM Sitcoms board that she believed he was probably dead, due to his heavy drinking. Considering he's getting up there in age, I could see it being possible. However, there's a good chance he fled to another country. He probably had money stashed away somewhere. If he's still alive, he's probably been running more scams. Another issue with this case is the possibility that the statute of limitations has run out. Not really familiar with those type of laws, maybe because its federal, it'll stick. But since it's been over 20 years, there's a high possibility no one's looking for him. But even if he's not wanted anymore, I'm still curious as to where he is and what he's been doing. Thoughts? UPDATE from site admin: As of July 22nd, 2018, Breen is still mentioned as "Results: Wanted" on Unsolved Mysteries Wiki: unsolvedmysteries.wikia.com/wiki/Philip_BreenAdmin Note: Based on online story descriptions, our advice would be to contact your local FBI field office or embassy if you have any information on this case.Admin Note #2: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-formAttachments:

One thing we need to decide upon is if we post a thread on a Cold Case fugitive that we aren't sure was aired on amw or featured on the website, does that thread go in the Cold Case section or the non-amw section. I would personally put them all in the non-amw section but that's up to Scumhunter's decision making.
Back to Breen's case, I believe we came to the conclusion on the old forum that as long as a felony warrant for arrest was filed in the court system that warrant will stick around until the fugitive would reach 99 years of age. (The Marshals have stated that's how long they'll look for the 1962 Alcatraz escapee fugitives.) Lifestyles like the one Breen was using usually take a toll on the person's well-being and it's quite possible he died in another country at some point, probably under an alias.

If he wants to move it, that's fine with me. It's just that this is usually the only section I post in. But if he wants it in the non-amw section, I'll post the rest there.

I just realized I actually put in for the headline description "AMW or general cold case fugitives" So by that definition I think we should just keep cold cases in here, but just specify in the headline or message itself that they weren't aired on AMW.

By the way is it just me or does he look like a game show host?

I just realized I actually put in for the headline description "AMW or general cold case fugitives" So by that definition I think we should just keep cold cases in here, but just specify in the headline or message itself that they weren't aired on AMW. I completely missed that. Therefore, you might want to move the Julio Merida thread from the non-amw case subforum into this one. Also can you move the Saul Aguilar thread (located at the very back of the amw fugitives subforum, I posted that case before we had a cold case subforum) to this subforum.

all are moved but the board places them in chronological order. Saul Aguilar's now on the last page here if you want to bump him up or move him up in the future.

No problem. The only issue is that we're not 100% sure if they were aired or not, considering how old the cases are. I don't think Breen was profiled, but other UM fugitives might've been.
Also, IMO, I think he looks like Jerry Orbach from Law & Order.

Just wanted to mention that a lot of the above comments was before we changed this from an AMW fan site to a "discuss all crime shows that cover fugitive cases and other cases" site so they're not relevant now.
