Alleged child predator Henry Benavidez was a web-exclusive case on AMW's old website. Below is the slightly edited archived description of the case (I'll explain later):
Cops: Texas Sex Offender May Be With Teen
When 38-year-old Henry Benavidez was convicted of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old family member in 1992, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
After he served his time, he registered as a sex offender in Abilene, San Antonio, Snyder, El Paso and Wichita Falls. But now police fear another child is in danger – a 16-year-old girl who police believe Benavidez may have abducted.
A warrant was issued for Benavidez’s arrest on May 5, 2010, charging him with sexual assault of a child.
Benavidez was last seen driving a white Cadillac with Texas license plate BH5F907. Cops say that on May 10, 2010, Benavidez contacted his father to let him know he was OK.
Thoughts? I'll explain now what I edited- the 16-year old girl's name. A girl claiming to be her posted on another message board claiming she was allowed to return home and board an international flight with a passport (she didn't say the country). She also requested her name not be mentioned about the case anymore. Her name does not show up in the NCMEC database on missingkids.com, so I will take the poster's word for it and honor the poster's wish for the time being. (If it turns out she is missing after all, this will change).
However, Benavidez is still listed in Abilene warrants search (It spells his last name as Benavides but I assume it's the same person). In addition, Texas DPS sex offender search says Benavidez is an absconded sex offender. So even if the charges were dropped in relation to the 16-year old girl (which I'm not sure if they were, only that someone claiming to be the missing girl says she was located), he should still be profiled based on being a missing sex offender alone. Let's make sure he doesn't harm any other children.
