(Above photo credit: usmarshals.gov) Fugitive Profile as of August 19th, 2014 (Based on US Marshals poster): Alias: Kenneth Brookins, Jack Coffman Sex: ……………………..MALE Race: ……………………WHITE Date of Birth: …….…….DECEMBER 19, 1948 Place of Birth: …… ……FORREST CITY, ARKANSAS Height: ……………….....5’10” Weight: …………..……..160 POUNDS Eyes: …………………....BROWN Hair: ………………….....BLACK Skintone: ………..……....MEDIUM Scars/Tattoos: …………..SCARS ON RIGHT AND LEFT ARMS Who to call if you've seen him: US Marshals Service 1-877-WANTED-2 or e-mail usms.wanted@usdoj.gov UPDATE from site admin: As of March 22nd, 2021, anyone with information on this fugitive's whereabouts can also call "America's Most Wanted" at 1-833-3-AMW-TIPS and/or submit a tip online at amwtips.comwww.usmarshals.gov/investigations/most_wanted/chism/chism15.pdfIn 1988 (The Marshals Poster mentions that as his warrant date), the US Marshals added two-time prison escapee Larry Porter Chism to their 15 Most Wanted List. On the list for 24 years, he is the fugitive who has spent the most time on the list. In 1978, Chism was serving 40 years in a Tennessee prison for armed robbery and narcotics violations. In that year, Chism shot a correctional officer during an inmate field trip to a bowling alley, kidnapped another guard and hijacked a small airplane. Chism and his accomplices were soon arrested but Chism later broke out of a prison in Arkansas. In 1990, US Marshals learned that Chism was living in North Carolina with a woman named Debra Brookings (alias) and her daughter (who was also using an alias). Chism sold his van later that year in Atlanta, Georgia and that's the last anyone has heard of Larry Porter Chism (according to his brief 2011 AMW profile). Unlike Vincent Walters, who bragged about being on the Marshals Most Wanted List for 23 years I just can't see Chism being that stupid. He was a Law School student before he got arrested and orchastrated a very complex prison escape plot. I can only speculate that he's still in the Southeastern United States or he fled to Latin America. Anyone else think that the Marshals may remove Chism from their list after 22 years of no real case activity (like they did with Gerald Hemp, Mauricio Menendez and John Vu). It is possible as the Marshals seem a tad more likely than the FBI. I think the reason guys like him stay on these lists is the slight hope that they let their guard down. Maybe not in such a stupid way as Walters, but perhaps the fugitive figures they're safe and stop staying low-key, go out more, talk to more people, etc. There's the stupid decades long fugitive way of getting caught of Walters, and then there's Whitey Bulger, which I don't call stupid but the "overly confident" way of getting caught when he back to the US after living in Europe. Perhaps the Marshals think Chism is in Latin America and hope he one day comes back. Who knows...

Considering that Chism has been the longest running fugitive on the USMS MW List, one would hope for a bit more publicly similar to what Victor Gerena has gotten, especially when you consider that Chism is overall worse than Gerena. Sadly that hasn't been the case.

Well, he'd be more likely to get caught than Gerena, who even if he's hiding in plain sight, is in a country that likely won't extradite. I know they're statistically less likely than the FBI but I do wonder if perhaps they're thinkingn of removing him. No leads and just an age-enhanced sketch that we have no idea if it is accurate or not. I wish there was someone with similar talents to the late Frank Bender out there.

I've mentioned these FBI identification orders before, but I wanted to specifically mention Chism's. On it, they list his many other occupations as "cashier, clerk-typist, farmer, logger, roofer, salesman, and stock clerk". So if he's still in the United States then he could be doing any of these jobs and possibly even more. fbimostwanted.us/zc/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=92

This thread has to be updated (and it's been a while since someone other than Dan Hiers was updated), but the fact that this is the 40th anniversary of his escaping prison and the 30th anniversary of him being on the USMS list has been ignored around here. Also, Chism - if he is still alive - will be 70 years old in December.

Oh wow hard to believe it's been that long. It would be easier for members to not forget about some of the cases if the Marshals would more frequently update their top 15 list like they have done in the past to remind us of its' existence. (which once again, they do an excellent job at capturing fugitives and my only complaint is the list needs to have additions more frequently, or at least whittle it down to a top ten if it won't be as updated as in the past).

I am wondering if Chism is still even together with the wife and daughter. If they are together, they are probably leaving separately albeit in the same community. I wonder how they developed that lead to begin with.

I think Larry Porter Chism is catchable, and he is more than likely still in the United States, probably working as a ranch hand/farm hand somewhere in the Deep South or out west, perhaps maybe even a truck driver.

I remember on the old site seeing that the US Marshals had received info that Chism is following natural disasters in order to find work. Very possible - a lot of those jobs are just temporary.

After Last nights episode, must say that I wouldn’t be surprised if since 1990 he returned to Forrest City, Arkansas (where he was born) or “Retired” to Hot Springs, AR, a location I’ve speculated Eugene Palmer could be in. Also the Ozark Mountains region in Arkansas is a quiet place for Chism to live undetected as there’s a lot of small towns.

Monday's AMW airing also confirmed that Larry Chism was first profiled on AMW in 1994. That's kind of what I suspected but it's nice to get confirmation.

Yesterday on AMW, they said Chism committed a bank robbery in January 1979 and stole $250,000..... that money then had the purchase power of almost $1,000,000 ($905,695.59).
