www.cnn.com/2015/07/16/us/james-holmes-trial-colorado-movie-theater-shooting-verdict/No surprise here, Colorado theater shooter James Holmes has been convicted of murder. Now the question is whether he gets life or the death penalty. Holmes had tried to plead guilty by reason of insanity. Look, as I've said in the past, I've had mental illness in my family. I know it's not a made up disease. But this does not apply to the Holmes case. This wasn't a spur of the moment schizophrenic off his meds going psycho. This theater shooting took a lot of plotting and planning. This was premeditated and deliberate. This is what upsets me. So many of these cases these guys claim insanity as an excuse, making it that much harder for legitimate insanity cases. As I've said in the past- I am usually torn when it comes to the death penalty- I do believe in an eye an eye a tooth for a tooth- it's just the potential of killing a wrongfully convicted person that gets to me. But in this case, where Holmes is obviously the culprit, please fry him.

Colorado has very few death row inmates and executions since 1976, but Holmes really needs to be executed.

And one member of the 12-person jury held out on sentencing Holmes to death, plus two members were on the fence, so Holmes was sentenced to life in prison, according to CNN. Not the result I wanted but I respect all 12 of those jurors for having to deal with the 15-week trial. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's in all capital punishment states that all twelve jurors have to agree on a death sentence, and less people are supporting capital punishment at the current time. www.cnn.com/2015/08/07/us/james-holmes-movie-theater-shooting-jury/index.html

And unsurprisingly people on CNN's Facebook are saying nasty comments to the jurors, while not showing sympathy for them dealing with this excruciating trial with all the gory crime scene photos and testimony. Also not surprising is that this has become a political debate somehow.

As much as the worst of criminals like Eagan deserve not just the death penalty but a medieval type execution like scaphism, I won't yell at CNN or the jury for sending Eagan to lifer's row. The trial was particularly painful, which is saying something, even for the difficulty of serving on a jury, and I concede we were lucky it didn't take all decade.

Am I disappointed Holmes didn't get the death penalty? Of course. As a matter of fact, the decision is quite shocking considering the severity of this case.
At the same time it's not like Holmes is getting sent to a sleep-away camp. He's still going to jail for the rest of his life. I remember getting really angry at Nancy Grace when she pumped out the fake outrage machine when Jodi Arias got life instead of the death penalty as well. Thankfully the other person interviewed on CNN called her out on her bs.
Disappointed in the decision, but I also feel comfortable knowing Holmes will never see the light of day again.
