The mysterious highway murder of loving father David Addison Neel was a web-exclusive case on AMW's old website. Below is the archived description of the case:
Father Killed Out Of The Blue
On March 6, 2005, David Neel, 49, was driving along I-75, near I-4, on his way to see his kids compete in a livestock competition at the annual strawberry festival outside of Tampa, Florida. Around 11 a.m., a bullet entered the driver side door and went into Neel's chest, killing him.
Police say Neel and his family were regarded highly in their community. Neel was a security guard and his wife and daughter were both school teachers. Police say the family has no reason to believe that he was engaged in any sort of questionable activity that would result in his murder.
Police Turn to Public For Help
Police have little to go on. They do know the bullet appeared to come from a passing car. Cops are investigating all possible scenarios, including road rage or a targeted shooting. They are appealing for help from anyone driving along south bound Interstate 75 between Fowler Avenue and the Interstate 4 exit ramp on Sunday March 6, 2005 between the hours of 10 and 11 a.m. Cops hope that someone driving through may have seen something that could lead them in the right direction.
Thoughts? According to the Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay website, indications are the shot was fired from a passing vehicle, which would have been slightly ahead of and to the left of Mr. Neel’s pick up truck. While some of the theories including road rage or a targeted shooting should be explored, mistaken identity should also be an avenue to explore, in my opinion.
If anyone has info, keep in mind, in addition to Crime Stoppers, the Neel family are offering their own $25,000 reward.
