In May of 2001, Evodio Manilla-Cabrera was paid by 26 Mexican nationals to illegally cross into the United States near the town of Lukeville, Arizona. The smuggling guide was Jesus Lopez Ramos. Ramos led them in the desert in their van, then they got out but scattered when they encountered Border Patrol agents. The original plan was to meet other vans that would take them out of Arizona, but they veered west towards Yuma, Arizona, in a direction that quickly resulted in them running out of water. On May 23, five of the migrants were found barely alive, their story led to a massive search which ended up locating the 25 total migrants, 14 of which were already dead. Lopez who nearly died himself pled guilty to smuggling charges but Cabrera is still at large.
Thoughts? Cabrera was the one behind this smuggling operation that left so many innocent people dead and others barely clinging to life, and he's still out there a free man 14-years later. As we've seen with Guillermo Madrigal Ballesteros on The Hunt, catching human traffickers that are believed to have fled the United States is not that easy but thankfully Interpol is looking for Cabrera. Also Cabrera may be in Honey, Puebla, Mexico which I checked and found that it only has a bit more than 7000 people living in it, but since he's a human trafficker, I really doubt that he lives there often.
