Jano Evans has been wanted by Florida Law Enforcement for nearly three decades. He was a web-exclusive case on AMW's old website. Below is the archive description of the case:
Pressure Builds On Violent Escapee
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is putting the pressure on one of their oldest and most violent escapees -- 67-year-old Jano Evans.
According to police, Evans killed an innocent woman more than 20 years ago and has yet to face justice.
It happened on the afternoon of June 16, 1987. Evans was returning to the Tampa, Fla., Salvation Army, where he was serving a four-year work release sentence for cocaine trafficking. Police say Evans was driving so fast that he failed to notice the disabled vehicle parked on the side of the Howard Frankland Bridge.
The Thompson family, sitting inside their car while waiting for a tow truck, was blindsided by the accident.
Mr. Thompson and his two children survived, Catherine, his wife and mother to his children, did not make it.
Evans was also injured in the accident, but police say he fled from the hospital before he could be arrested.
He is charged with one count of manslaughter and escape.
Authorities need your help finding Evans. He may have fled to Maine or even Central America.
Thoughts? This is a little different from the other Florida vehicle-related homicides I've posted since Evans was not drunk (or wasn't proven to be.) However, he was still negligent and still needs to pay for that negligence.
Evans AMW archive is from years ago and the story claims he's 67. Yet the FDLE searches lists his date of birth as November 1949. In any case, we can deduce he is in his late 60's/early 70's if still alive today.
We don't see too many fugitives who may possibly be in Maine, so I wonder if Evans has family there.
