(Above photo credit: amw.com archives) Fugitive Profile as of June 20th, 2015: (based on FDLE Most Wanted search) Full Name: Roman Sebastian Saldarriaga Date of Birth: 11/29/1983 (31 years old) Race: White Sex: Make Height: 5' 08" Weight: 170 Hair Color: Black Eyes Color: Brown Who to call if you've seen him: Reporting agency at (239) 252-9300Cops: Drunk Driver Kills Mother Of TwoCops in Florida are trying to track down Roman Saldarriaga - a teen who they say was driving drunk when he slammed into another car, pusing into oncoming traffic and killing the driver. On Sept. 1, 2003, officials say Saldarriaga was on his way to a friend's house in Naples, Fla. when he tried to pass a truck on a two-lane road and knocked a car into the path of a truck in the other lane. Janelle Hail, a mother of two, died at the scene, entagled in the wreckage of the crash. Hard EvidenceAt the scene of the crash, investigators found empty beer cans inside Saldarriaga's car. When cops asked him about the evidence they found, Saldarriaga confessed that he had five or six beers. Then, cops took a blood sample, and when the results came back, they weren't surprised. Saldarriaga's blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. But before cops could throw him behind bars, Saldarriaga managed to take off. He hasn't been seen since. Thoughts? According to his archive, Saldarriaga was aired on the September 10th, 2005 and December 3rd, 2005 episode of America's Most Wanted. And yes, DUI and Florida AGAIN. I swear I'm just adding as many old amw.com cases as I can before we shift our focus to the season 2 of The Hunt. I am selecting all cases at RANDOM and still get a DUI Florida manslaughter case every day. *sigh* Also, the AMW archive no longer has a profile but the FDLE wanted search system did. Once again fugitives come in all shapes and sizes but I think Saldarriaga is Hispanic despite being listed as white by FDLE. It's just a lot of law enforcement sites usually just only classify white or black for fugitives and by that definition Hispanics are considered white. Only mentioning this since tip-wise it should be stressed Saldarriaga could be in a Spanish-speaking country. web.archive.org/web/20060215030156/http://www.amw.com/fugitives/case.cfm?id=34395pas.fdle.state.fl.us/pas/person/viewWantedPerson-105192808.aAdmin Note: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

Just wanted to post an update. There is news on this case and none of it is good. Unlike Chris Ponce (I hope he's caught soon), police know exactly where Roman is at. But as this link from the Naples Daily News shows, longform.naplesnews.com/freetoflee. , he won't be facing justice anytime soon. After he was located in Columbia, a request was made back in 2009 to extradite him. And the response of the Columbian government was a big fat no. If he had been charged with a drug crime, he would have been on a plane before he could have blinked. Drug crimes in the eyes of the Columbian government, bad. Driving drunk and killing someone? Not so bad. As it stands now, unless the Columbian government changes it mind (highly unlikely at this point) Roman is free to continue to spend time with his family and friends, enjoy time on the beach and party it up , and share his thoughts on U.S. Politics or crack jokes on his Facebook page and there is nothing Florida police can do about it unless he chooses to leave the country. And as he states in one message to a friend on there that asked him about visiting Singapore, that isn't going to happen as he knows he'll be arrested the minute he leaves and tries to go someplace else. It's disgusting that he's going to get away with what he did to Janelle Hail, it truly is.

Hi, Ninja, thanks for joining the forum!
What an infuriating update.
Hard to believe the Colombian government is allowing Roman to be a coward and not face justice. And this guy's living his life and posting his Facebook photos like nothing ever happened. After depraving someone of having the ability to do the same.
And you're absolutely right. If it was a drug crime, he would have been extradited right away. (It seems many Central American countries care more about drug crimes than if someone was an actual murderer).

Thank you for the welcome! Hope to become an active member and interact with fellow AMW fans about past and current cases. As for Roman, I wish I could say that I'm shocked over the Columbian government's refusal to extradite him but let's face it, here in the U.S., the punishment in so many places for drunk drivers who maim or kill is a joke. Not to mention the excuses made for the perps that will NEVER happen in other kinds of violent crime. Kill someone with a gun or stab them, go to prison for life or the chair. Have a few drinks and then maim or kill someone with your car, you are a "good" person who deserves a few days in jail or probation at best as it's no big deal. It's still not acknowledged as the violent crime it is here, no surprise Columbia and other countries will have the same viewpoints. I guess what bothers me about this case isn't just the fact that Janelle Hail's family and friends are unlikely to get justice for her unless Roman decides to grow a conscience and turns himself in (not likely to happen.) It's (as you said) the fact that he is posting photos showing he is living his life without a second thought to what's he done. He does appear to care about his family and friends but clearly doesn't give a darn about Janelle's loved ones. And neither do his family and friends who post on his page. His friends from the U.S. and other places talk about hoping to be able to visit him someday (including someone in the Navy!) and how they miss him and remember the good old days in Florida or how amazing their visit with him was and hope they hope to do it again soon and his family has made posts stating how proud they are of the hardships he has overcome, with no mention at all of his victims. Clearly the fact he killed someone is no big deal to them. I have no doubt they would be singing a different tune if it was their loved ones maimed or killed but I won't wish that, even on Roman. As you said, what an infuriating update, one that hopefully won't happen very often.

It appears he has finally taken his Facebook page down(I can't find it) but he is still a fugitive and always will be until Columbia either turns him over or he decides to try and leave the country/turn himself in. None of those things are likely to happen. My heart breaks for Janelle's family.

Yeah our only hope is Roman one day going "you know want I was a young and immature kid back then and now that I'm an adult in my 30's I'd like to take responsibility for my actions as I realize now that I was wrong."
I'm not exactly holding my breath on that.

I'm not exactly holding my breath on that. His last few posts on his Facebook page(before he deleted it) made it clear he's never going to do that. This is one of the cases that angers me the most because unlike some of the AMW fugitives still on the loose, cops know where the bad guy is. And yet nothing can be done to bring him back. Makes me sick.
