(Above photo credit: someoneismissing.com) AMW has aired missing 23-year old Leah Peebles three times between 2010 and 2011. In 2006, Peebles disappeared in Albuquerque, New Mexico after deciding to stay there with family friends. She had previously been molested as a little girl and was raped as a teenager. This eventually caused her to resort to narcotics and prostitution. She moved to Albuquerque from Texas to start a better life but soon reverted back to her old habits. After she disappeared, her father John went to Albuquerque to search for her. He learned that Leah's vehicle was found damaged near an auto-repair shop, one of the workers there was very cooperative. He also learned that she may have been working for a pimp known as "A.J." along Central Ave (old Route 66). Investigators located A.J. after he was located in Bakersfield, California but claimed to have never heard of Leah. There have been several possible leads along the way. One tipster claimed to have seen Leah getting into a transport truck travelling to Las Vegas, Nevada. Another tipster claimed to have seen Leah working as a waitress in El Paso, Texas. The last credible sighting of her was in the fall of 2006. It should be noted that between 2003 and 2006, an unusually high volume of women disappeared in Albuquerque, most of which were known prostitutes. 10 of them (and one from another state) were found dead in a western area outside of Albuquerque in 2009. Known as the West Mesa Serial Killer, his identity remains elusive. There is no evidence to link Leah to that case, although it is possible that the killer(s) had a different burial ground in which more women's remains are hidden. Her father believes she was sold to another pimp in another city but for some reason I feel that she never left New Mexico. I don't know why I think that way. There is an hour+ long blog talk interview the mother of another AMW missing woman (Jessica Foster) did with Leah's father in Late 2012 about the disappearances. I'm going to watch some at least some of it and see if there's any new information mentioned. www.charleyproject.org/cases/p/peebles_leah.htmlwww.abqtrib.com/news/2007/sep/15/hopeful-wary-parents-search-albuquerque-streets-th/Admin Note #1: According to online research, anyone having information should call the Albuquerque Police Department at (505) 242-2677Admin Note #2: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

Still haven't listened but reading and watching the case I think the West Mesa serial killer is an avenue that should be explored which I don't believe it has. I also remember a frequent poster, forget who but it was one of us regulars , on the old amw.com board who thought perhaps Leah didn't want to be found and thought the father might have been obsessive based on the lengths he went to find her. I don't remember if I said it but while I respected the opinion, I disagreed. I think he's just a man desperate to find his daughter and will do anything to find her. But in a case like this, as terrible as it sounds, you may actually want to hope she's a run a way and doesn't want to be found. That's at least a better outcome than her being found dead.

I listened to more of that interview but didn't pick up anything useful that I didn't know already. I'll provide the link for anyone that's interested. www.blogtalkradio.com/missingandexploited/2012/10/03/the-disappearance-of-leah-peebles-1In regards to your second point Scumhunter, that's how I feel a fair number of missing adult cases work, they don't want to be an assumed burden to their loved ones and just disappear. However, that's not what I feel happened to Leah.

Something I recalled from the Dateline episode on the West Mesa murders was that it was believed that suburban development eventually forced the killer(s) to abandon the grave site. The victims all disappeared from 2003 to 2005. From 2006 to 2008, more women disappeared (including Leah) who fit the same victim profile. It can't be denied that those victims may have been buried in a separate grave site. Judging by how much of a fluke it was to find the grave site with the 11 women, perhaps the other women were killed and will never be found.
I'm also wondering if John Peebles's judgment that Leah even left Albuquerque is even that accurate. Her pimp A.J. however surely knows what happened to her and may in fact know more about the West Mesa murders. For those who watched her case on the ID Show "Disapppeared" (either on TV or Youtube), pimps in the area John searched got very nervous about him being there and he felt he was on the right track. Someone on another crime-related forum brought up that the pimps may have gotten annoyed solely because he was intruding on their illegal operations.
Just my personal opinion.

Horrible. I looked to double check since I didn't want to believe this and the Leah Peebles Facebook group confirmed it's not another John Peebles, but the father of Leah. Really sad he died without finding out what happened to Leah. Life just seems so unfair sometimes. If by some miracle she winds up alive hopefully she'll be touched by the lengths he went to.
