Victim Becomes Cop To Track Down Criminals
One of the NYPD officers who says Yossi Bensadon and Israel Or robbed a New York City carwash knows exactly what happened that day.
Officer Thalia Chin knows that one of the men was a bodybuilder and the other one was skinny. She also knows that they wrapped the bookkeeper in duct tape after they stuck a gun in the woman's face and demanded to get in.
Thalia knows all the details because she was the victim.
The robbery on Feb 21, 2003, affected her so deeply, that she decided to become a cop to keep people in the 23rd Precinct safe from the violence she experienced.
A Familiar Face
Thalia was working at the Israeli-owned business, which dealt only in cash. At 7:35 a.m., two men came into the office of the carwash, claiming to be florists with a delivery of flowers.
She let them in and recognized one of the men, who had light blue eyes. A week before the robbery, a muscular man came in and asked for a job. The man's voice and his distinctive blue eyes stuck in her memory. Officials say that man is Israel Or.
But the situation instantly changed when Or put on a ski mask. Cops say Or and Bensadon then put a 9mm Glock handgun to Thalia's head and screamed to let them into the safe- or they would kill her on the spot. Fearing for her life, she opened the door. After the two men barged in, they tied up Thalia, stole all the cash from the safe and other places where they knew money was stashed.
Then, they ran away.
Worldwide Search
After allegedly ripping off close to $150,000, Bensadon and Or have left the New York City area and have gone their separate ways. Bensadon has been spotted in Sherman Oaks, Ca., Miami and in the Hasidic community in Munsey, NY. Authorities believe that Or has returned back to Israel, where he is a citizen, and started up a nightclub in the Elat area.
Both men are Israeli nationals who were illegally in the United States at the time of the crime and have served in the Israeli army.
Now cops across the country and around the world are on the look out for these two fugitives--but no one as much as Police Officer Chin.
Thoughts? The above was taken from the AMW archives. This case was aired on the May 26th, 2006 episode of America's Most Wanted. I have to give a lot of credit to Officer Chin. For her to be in a situation where she feared for her life, and use it to take a job with a lot of potential danger proves she is truly dedicated and wants to make the world a better and safer place.
I am skeptical about our chances of getting Israel Or back if it's known he's running a nightclub in Israel and yet he still hasn't been extradited. Bensadon, on the other hand, seems to have been spotted in California and may potentially be in the United States. I am assuming both are still at large as of this posting date (6/16/2015) since I haven't found anything online suggesting otherwise. Their profile stats will be in the links below. Please keep in mind they are from 2007, so any updated information would be a big help.
