Edward Debski III was aired on the June 23rd, 2007 episode of America's Most Wanted. Although unfortunately the profile listing his height, weight, characteristics, etc. are no longer available via archive, the detailed case description still is. Below is that description:
A Soldier Turned Outlaw
Authorities say former marine Edward Debski III is a self-described "jack-of-all-trades" who also found work as a magician, exotic dancer, and a clown. However, cops are hoping to pin down Debski for his role in an armed robbery that occurred in Santa Barbara in 1993.
On February 20, 1993, two Pacific Sunwear employees went to their business baking branch to make the night deposit. One of the employees went with her boyfriend in his truck while the other employee followed behind them en route to the bank. When the woman got out of her boyfriend's vehicle to make the drop, cops say Debski intercepted her on a motorcycle.
The woman told police that Debski was brandishing a gun and she begged him not to shoot her. When she gave him the money, he took off. Luckily, the other employee had noticed a Santa Barbara Sheriff's Deputy nearby and drove off to get his attention when she saw her friend being held up. The Deputy called in the incident and alerted all law enforcement in the area.
One officer in the area, Riley Harwood, got the call just as Debski raced past him. It began a pursuit that would exceed speeds of 95 miles per hour. Cops say Debski ran stop signs, weaved in and out of traffic, but was ultimately rammed by Officer Harwood. Debski began to flee on foot, but was pursued by Harwood and Reserve Officer Peter Brown.
Brown caught up to Debski and grabbed him by the hand, but didn't realize that the ex-marine had his weapon in the other hand. Harwood approached the scuffle, he saw that Debski was turning toward him and believed that he would be shot unless he took immediate action. Harwood fired a single shot at Debski just as Brown wrestled him to the ground.
Officers soon located the money from the robbery and also arrested Debski's girlfriend, Heather Fritz. Fritz told detectives that Debski had been staying in a hotel room and that he had been making homemade bombs, one of which might be placed on her pickup truck. When the bomb squad checked the vehicle, they found five pipe bombs equipped with fuses, but no gunpowder. Police learned that the bombs were engineered by Debski so that he could throw them from his motorcycle, only he never figured out how to ignite them while driving.
Over A Decade On The Run
Edward Debski ultimately confessed to the robbery and Fritz implicated herself as encouraging the crime. She served her one year in county jail, but Debski had other plans. He was allowed bail and never returned to court. Cops say that he disappeared one day from his parent's Lancaster, Calif. home, saying that he was going out for a jog. He hasn't been seen since.
At the time of his arrest, Debski had a copy of the Anarchist Cookbook from which he obtained his bomb-making ideas. He was also in possession of a book, Privacy, which spells out how to avoid police, identification, and addressers.
Debski enlisted in the Marines after graduating high school and served at Camp Pendleton, Calif. until May of 1991. When cops interviewed him, they say he flaunted the belief that he is a jack-of-all-trades and a weapons expert with other survivalist skills. At the time of his arrest, he was described as being in excellent shape and admitted to running ten miles a day. Debski also admitted to authorities that he would use weapons against police if pursued.
Detectives say that Debski has worked in the past as a magician, clown, and exotic dancer. He claims to be very good with his hands but would never work a standard 9-to-5 job. He's stated in the past that he gets bored easily and has to change jobs periodically. Cops say that Debski is also an avid surfer and maybe hiding out in states close to the ocean like Florida, California, and Hawaii.
Police in Santa Barbara are asking for the public's assistance in locating Edward Debski III but stress that he is most likely armed and dangerous.
Thoughts? I am assuming Debski is still at large as of this posting date (6/14/2015) since I have seen no proof otherwise. As always, if anyone can prove otherwise, please feel free to contact us.
In any case, with Debski being an ex-Marine it is not entirely surprising he is still on the run. Anything is possible, but I do admit he will be an impressive capture if he's ever nabbed.
