Police are asking for your help finding two suspects wanted in connection with the shooting death of a 14-year-old Bronx boy last week.
Police say Travis Bloch is wanted in connection with the death of Christopher Duran, 14, who was shot once in the head and three times in the chest last Friday.
Bloch is 25, 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighs about 150 pounds, police said. A photo provided by police shows that Bloch has a distinctive mark on the left side of his neck, just beneath the jawline.
Police believe that Bloch may have been the suspect caught on surveillance tape wearing a light colored hooded sweatshirt with dark sleeves, blue jeans and a red bandana over his face.
Police are also looking for Jeremiah Thomas, also known as “Jay,” of the Bronx. He is 16 years old and about 6 feet tall and weighs about 170 pounds.
The incident took place at around 8:30 a.m. at Sheridan Avenue near East 167th Street in Concourse Village.
Duran was seen arguing with two young men just before the shooting, police said.
Anyone with information about the incident or Bloch’s whereabouts is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS. You can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or text a tip to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577.
“He was a good kid. He was a 14-year-old kid. A normal kid, likes to hang out with his friends,” said Duran’s cousin, Stephanie Guzman. “He’s going to school, and he gets shot and killed for no apparent reason. Who does that?”
Police said Duran had a troubled past, with multiple arrests, but his family members were adamant that he was not in a gang.
A few more notes:
-Perhaps the most heartwrenching aspect of this case are Christopher Duran's last known words when he yelled "Mommy!" "Mommy!" before collapsing in front of a laundromat
-The shooting, according to the New York Post's sources, was part of a turf war between the Bloods and the Crips. While Christopher Duran's involvement is disputed, by his family his brother is alleged to be a leader in a rival gang called the "280 Crew."
-Travis Bloch has a long rap sheet that includes arrests for robbery, assault and possession of a knife.
Thoughts? Regardless of what Christopher was or wasn't involved with, it doesn't justify his murder. This was cold blooded- execution style. And sometimes kids get caught up with the wrong crowd when they're young- they still don't deserve to lose their life because of it. Seeing Christopher's last words were "Mommy, mommy" reminds us that at the end of the day- he was still just a kid. And a man who was over 10 years older allegedly executed a kid for no apparent good reason.
