Below is the Charley Project description of the case: Russell was last seen playing in the sandbox in his family's fenced backyard at their residence at Lynch's Trailer Park on River Road in Wheatfield, New York on May 5, 1982. Russell's mother went inside their home for to repair one of his toys. She stated she was gone for less than five minutes, perhaps less than one minute. Upon her return outside, she discovered her son was missing. The gate in the fence was still closed and was locked from the outside. Russell has never been seen again. An unidentified Caucasian male and female are wanted for questioning regarding Russell's disappearance. The couple was spotted in the area of the Russell family's home at the same time the child vanished. No one saw the couple interact with Russell and it is not known if they are connected to his case, but investigators would like to question them as possible witnesses, if nothing more. The sketches of the unknown individuals are posted below. The female had dark brown curly hair and was in her early to mid-twenties in 1982. The male had light brown hair and a moustache. He was in his late twenties to early thirties in 1982. The couple was seen riding in a white 1965 or older Corvette with a black convertible top the day Russell vanished. They were last seen in the area of Hyde Park Boulevard and Packer Road. Some officials do not believe Russell was abducted; they think it more likely that he fell into the Niagara River, which runs only about 100 yards from his home, and that his body was swept away. However, there is no evidence beyond conjecture to support this theory. In 2005, a man from Texas contacted authorities and stated he believed he was Russell. The individual was adopted, and stated his adoptive parents gave evasive answers when he asked about his history. He decided he may be Russell after he saw the child profiled on a missing persons website. Authorities tested the Texas man's DNA against DNA from Russell's family, but the samples did not match. Russell's case remains unsolved. Thoughts? As mentioned on some other sites it doesn't make sense Russell accidentally fell into the Niagara River since he was in a fenced-in backyard. In my opinion, this sounds like an abduction case. I will post the sketches of the people of interest from the Charley Project below. If anything i'd say that the falling in the river theory shouldn't be too far dismissed. Although i'm going to have to lean more toward an abduction myself.

I'm familiar with this case.
I'm 99.9% sure the article is wrong. I have seen nearly every segment of Unsolved Mysteries and Mort was never profiled. UM did not cover any of the most famous missing children's cases of the late 70's/mid 80's (Etan Patz, Johnny Gosch, Kevin Collins, Jacob Wetterling, etc). Also, I have nearly all 400 episodes of Forensic Files (missing only a handful) and Mort is nowhere to be seen on any of them and it's highly unlikely they would have an unsolved case on there.
I believe he was abducted. Interestingly, the late Michelle McNamara believed this case might be tied to another boy who disappeared during the same time frame, Wallace Guidroz. Although they happened on opposite sides of the country, they were both near the Canadian border, leading to the possibility that someone from Canada was dipping into the U.S. to steal children to take back to there. There was a mysterious couple also seen here during the time of Wallace's disappearance that look eerily similar to the couple seen in the vicinity of Mort when he disappeared, although the pictures aren't loading for me this time: www.truecrimediary.com/index.cfm?page=cases&id=119
Throwing my two cents into it, there is another possible missing child's case from the time frame that could also be linked, Nyleen Kay Marshall, who was profiled on Unsolved Mysteries. www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/marshall_nyleen.html
This was a bit further down, but still relatively close to the Canadian border as Montana does border Canada. And again, two suspects seen and again it's one male and one female. (is it possible to upload images from my desktop on here?)
Nyleen's parents received a horrifying letter postmarked from Wisconsin after her disappearance. Wisconsin being another state that borders Canada.
I couldn't read the article linked to by Scumhunter, I kept getting those "Security Alert" error messages.

Thank you for the new information walshfan. It seems the only *possible* show Russell could have been aired on is America's Most Wanted since there's not as extensive an online episode guide aside from your excellent contributions of the episodes you've compiled. Still, I'm assuming Russell could have been aired on t.v. at some point on at least a news show so I'll just use that as my excuse to justify keeping him in the missing on tv as opposed to exclusive section.
Also yes it is possible to upload images from your desktop on here. On the upper right corner side after you hit reply to a thread or comment should be an "Add Attachment" option. Also under add attachment is a bunch of icons. The third icon image (after the globe and envelope) is the picture icon where you can click on it and copy and paste url images.
I am on my phone browser and clicked on the article again and did not get a security alert. Perhaps try a different browser and/or different device.
Both missing child cases you think could be connected are equally troubling to think about, but I agree with you it is not far fetched to think they may be connected.

Thank you scumhunter. I tried the article on another computer and was able to read it. The following composite sketches of the female are in this order: Wallace Guidroz, Nyleen Kay Marshall, Russell Mort. Please compare these and let me know what you think. |

Oh yeah there's a definite resemblance in all three. Guidroz and Mort female POI look the most similar imo. P.S. We also have a thread on Nyleen Kay Marshall but not Wallace Guidroz. I'll make one if I have some time later or anyone else is more than free to make a post about him before then if I don't get to it.
