Elizabeth Smart has joined the search for a missing Utah woman, 26-year old Elizabeth Elena Laguna Salgado.
Salgado was attending the Nomen Global School in Provo, Utah. She was only in the U.S. for about a month, after returning from a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico. She speaks little English and was attending the school on an English scholarship.
Salgado was last seen leaving the school on April 16th, of this year, around 1:30 PM mountain time. She was believed to have last been carrying a denim handbag with red straps and wearing a denim jacket and blue jeans. She was wearing knee-high boots that were either black or brown. She was believed to be heading back to her apartment, which she lived in with roommates. The apartment was said to be 18 or 19 blocks from her school. Salgado also worked at a local restaurant.
Those who know Salgado say it is outside the norm for her to disappear for a long time without telling anyone.
As part of their investigation, detectives wanted to question two men who had allegedly asked Salgado out on dates. She reportedly declined both invitations.
While the trail is still cold, victim's advocate Elizabeth Smart, who once was also a missing Utah woman before being famously recovered by America's Most Wanted, has joined the search. Smart held a press conference in Utah to draw attention to the case.
Thoughts? Unfortunately, the circumstances and fact Salgado would never disappear without telling anyone give reason to have serious concern, but having Elizabeth Smart involved with the case shows that there is always hope.
**********UPDATE**********
Sadly, in May of 2018, remains found in Hobble Creek Canyon in Utah were identified as belonging to Elizabeth Salgado.
This case is now said to be an active homicide investigation. Anyone with any information on Elizabeth's case is asked to please call the Investigations Division of the Utah County Sheriff's Office at (801)851-4010.
