I should stress this is merely hypothetical. However, when AMW was on the air, there was always a discussion of who should take over if John Walsh was to ever retire. Or after Walsh started the Hunt, who should host AMW if it's brought back it will likely be without him.
However, even with a new show, Walsh is now approaching his 70's, and while plenty of famous celebrities had full time tv jobs into that age, there is always the possibility Walsh could retire and/or choose to focus on the Justice Network. Not to mention, whether it's AMW or The Hunt, the sad reality is John Walsh will pass away one day, since we all do. But hopefully it's not until he's 115 years old and he retired at 110!
I think this conversation is separate from AMW because of The Hunt's unique style. I am not trying to insult my hero's amazing legacy, but Walsh on AMW mainly introduced fugitives and did voice-overs, although he often provided his opinions at the end of a show and/or after a segment. The new host (if AMW ever came back) could in theory be an actor or actress with no direct link to crime and still introduce cases. This was the case with Robert Stack and Dennis Farina on Unsolved Mysteries. What Walsh mainly did for AMW was give it credibility because the guy introducing the cases was the parent of a murdered child.
The Hunt, however, is an opinion-oriented show, and Walsh's commentary based on his personal experiences and expert knowledge of criminal cases is a huge part of the show. So in my opinion, and just my opinion, I think it would be even more important for someone with a history similar to Walsh's take over The Hunt than even AMW.
Obviously Mark Klaas jumps out at me, but as mentioned on the old AMW forum, he can be controversial. (Then again, so could Walsh, who we all love for telling it like it is).
Elizabeth Smart as we often discuss provides a very unique perspective being a missing child recovered by a tv show, who despite the happy ending in terms of her being saved, went through hell before she finally was located.
Aphrodite Jones is a true crime author but has commentated on still active fugitive cases on Investigation Discovery channel's "True Crime: with Aphrodite Jones"
Tamron Hall is also a host of "Deadline: Crime" that once updated the case of Sarah Pender, and I remember did an unsolved missing (I think it was missing) case in it's first season. Hall has a tragic back story as well- her sister was murdered.
Although I think they'd be more suited for AMW, all of AMW's former commentators might also be a good choice for The Hunt since they too are experienced tracking down bad guys.
Thoughts? I want to stress there is no talk that Walsh is leaving The Hunt any time soon and hopefully it stays that way for at least another decade!
