I think it goes without saying most of us here never or have rarely missed an episode of America's Most Wanted and The Hunt.
Back in the day, if you knew you were going to miss an episode of your favorite show, you had to have a VCR, make sure it had enough room on the tape, and hope your scheduled recording worked, and that other members of your household didn't want to watch a different show at the time if you only had one tv.
Now thanks to DVR's, where you can record multiple shows at once, and sites like Hulu and Netflix, more and more people are watching shows at times other than their scheduled playings.
Obviously, with AMW and The Hunt, they're addicting shows where you want to "join the hunt" right away. You want to watch it live. However, life happens sometimes. Some people have work, get togethers etc. at night.
As far as watching what is or was your viewing habits? I should note that obviously if you don't have cable, you have no choice but to hope CNN shows a Hunt repeat on it's website (or it's CNN Go app), or when AMW was on Lifetime hope they would re-play the show on the Lifetime website (which they originally did before the contract dispute).
But as far as the show being available to me, while it depended on the airing date, I grew up watching the show with my mother (and sometimes my father- who wasn't as into it) every Saturday at 8 PM on Fox- live. However, once I was of college age and in my 20's, I went out often on Saturday nights- as young adults do. This was mostly pre-DVR days too, and we had a crappy VCR that wouldn't record in advance. So sometimes if I knew I wouldn't be home in time, I would have to call my parents who I still lived with to press power and record at 9 PM (I'd usually advise them to start a little before and stop a little after just in case lol). So while I never or rather rarely missed an episode, I would say I probably have seen more Fox AMW episodes on a day other than Saturday than I have seen them live. Unlike pakman, I never thought to actually save the recordings and it still bugs me that I didn't!
The last season on Lifetime was probably about 50-50 as to when I would be able to watch, although I had a 9-5 Monday-Friday job around that time so I'd be more likely to stay home (going out on a Friday night after you just had work sucks).
As far as The Hunt goes, I have been lucky enough to only miss one episode live so far- the Thayne Smika/Rick McLean episode which I DVR'd and watched on Monday morning. However, I sometimes have to work at night or go out at night- even on weekends sometimes- so I think I just lucked out for season 1 and will probably have no choice but to record more often this summer. (I know I still get to see the episode- but considering I run a message board which is a fan site for AMW/The Hunt, I feel the quicker I see it the better- in all honesty if I wasn't running this site I probably wouldn't feel the need to watch as urgently- but I definitely would watch within the week ).
How do you watch AMW/The Hunt? Do you re-arrange your schedule to make sure you're home? Or do you add it to your queue for when you can have the most free time to relax and watch it, even if it means you don't get to watch live?
