David Block was aired twice on AMW- the summers of 2007 and 2008 and has been on the run from Florida law enforcement agencies for over a dozen years. Below is the archived description of his case:
A Nightmare Vacation
In 2002, a 14-year-old girl who we'll call Sara went on a Florida vacation with her friend's family. When they arrived in Cape Coral, the family took Sara over to David Block's home. Block was an old family friend from New Jersey. However, the family was unaware of Block's alleged dark side -- a dark side Sara would experience first hand.
According to police sources, everyone was having a good time at the home Block shared with his Colombian mail-order bride, Yolanda. But, later in the evening the party started to die down. After everyone went to bed, Block found himself alone with Sara. Cops say Block made her a blue drink. According to them, it was a date rape drug. After the drug took effect, police say, Block raped her.
Sara didn't tell anyone about the rape until the family was visiting another group of friends.
A DNA Match, But Nobody To Arrest
It just so happened that a police captain lived down the street from the family's friends in West Palm Beach. The family immediately took Sara to the police captain, who knew the urgency of getting her to the hospital for examination.
At the hospital, police verified Sara's story and were able to obtain DNA evidence. Police say this DNA matched David Block's. But, when police went to arrest the accused child rapist, he was gone.
Police believe Block could be anywhere. However, they say particular areas of interest are Chicago, New Jersey, and Colombia. They believe he may be using an alias.
Thoughts? It's a wonder Block went on the run, as with DNA evidence, what the heck could have defense have been? Consensual? That's still statutory rape, and based on the blue drink, it doesn't sound consensual to me.
I am also curious as to why Block, a white male, had a mail-order bride from Colombia and why he seems to have a connection with that country. This is Florida, where drug traffickers have to go through, and Colombia, a country known for drug trafficking, so it makes me wonder. (I am not saying I think he's involved in the drug trade, but in my opinion it is fair to speculate about the possibility).
