SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — It’s been exactly one year and one day since the murder of Chaviz Nguyen in downtown Springfield and two of the men charged in connection to Nguyen’s death have not been arrested.

“It’s been hard, heartbreaking. You know, there’s no words to explain it,” Chea Nguyen, Chaviz’s father said. “It is a mental health and physical health thing, you know, emotional. I wake up every morning, thinking this is not real. You know what I mean? I get up and when I wake up [it sinks in that] this is reality, it is real and is happening. So it is hard and it’s very emotional.”

On November 14, 2023, Chaviz Nguyen and his girlfriend, who was pregnant at the time, were in a car in downtown Springfield when a car pulled up and began shooting into the vehicle.

Nguyen was able to shield his girlfriend but later died.

Chea Nguyen says the birth of his grandson has been a blessing and Nguyen’s girlfriend and the Nguyen family remain close.

Police quickly arrested and charged three people, Elysha Bedell, Timothy Hester and Cesar Bolanos in connection to the murder.

Earlier this year, two more were charged, however, police have not been able to arrest Arshaun Bradley and Quartze “Quartez” Washington.

“It’s frustrating, first of all, because I know what I heard that [one of the wanted men] is in and out going back from Chicago to Springfield, then Springfield to Chicago. We have tips we gave to the U.S. Marshals since now the case is brought to U.S. Marshals and they still haven’t caught them yet,” Nguyen said.

OzarksFirst reached out to Springfield Police for an update on the case and was given a statement that reads, “The investigation into the murder of Chaviz Nguyen on Nov. 14, 2023, remains active. Arshaun Bradley, 20, and Quartze “Quartez” Washington, 19, are both wanted for 1st degree murder in connection to this homicide. Both have out-of-state ties and are believed to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Bradley and Washington can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 417-869-TIPS (8477) or online at p3tips.com.”

Nguyen says SPD remains in contact with the family but he wants to see justice.

“I would like to see them all get caught and then bring them to justice and get them all locked up for life,” Nguyen said. “I want to thank you two detectives involved in that case. They did a tremendous job. But at the same time, just two suspects still on the run. We need to get them caught.”

Thoughts? As of today’s posting date (November 21st, 2024), a search of Missouri’s casenet records shows still no movements since warrants for Bradley and Washington were issued back on April 16th, 2024 (the thread title reflects the alleged incident date). Also to find the case against Washington, search for “Quartez” instead of Quartze.
