SEABROOK, Texas – Seabrook police are searching for a man wanted in connection with the death of Mary Jayne Collins, who was found dead in her apartment with her children.
Collins body was discovered at the Teakwood Apartment Complex on Oct. 4.
Initially believed to have died from a gunshot wound, the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that Collins’ cause of death was blunt force trauma and a single stab wound to the upper body.
Through collected evidence, investigators identified the suspect as 22-year-old Dawayland Earnest Hurst. Police believe Hurst was inside Collins’ apartment at the time of the incident and assaulted one of Collins’ children only minutes before officers arrived.
Officers are continuing to search for Hurst, and anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact the Seabrook Police Department.

Thoughts? As of today’s posting date (October 13th, 2024), Hurst still shows as having a warrant/still not in custody according to a search of Harris County’s online court records. They spell his name as “Dwayland” so any clarification on the correct spelling since there is a discrepancy with articles and official court records would be much appreciated.
