(WKYT) - UPDATE: The suspect in a mass shooting on the interstate in Laurel County is on the run and considered armed and dangerous. Multiple law enforcement agencies are looking for Joseph A. Couch, 32, of Woodbine, KY. He is described as 5′10″ and 154 pounds. Deputies say you should not approach him. Laurel County Sheriff John Root says deputies were originally called for a report of a gunshot victim around 5:30 p.m. Saturday on I-75 near exit 49. When deputies arrived, they found nine vehicles had been shot into in both the north and southbound lanes. Five people were found to be seriously injured. Deputies on scene transported the injured to a local hospital for treatment. London Mayor Randall Weddle told WKYT the five victims were stable. Three were flown out of St. Joseph London for treatment. Other Sheriff’s deputies as well as the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, along with London Police and Kentucky State Police are still on scene to aid in the search. The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says law enforcement is looking for Joseph A. Couch, 32 of Woodbine, KY. He is described as 5′10″ and weighing approximately 154 pounds. He is a person of interest in the shooting. The sheriff’s office says he is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, 911 should be called.Mayor Weddle says authorities are looking for Couch in a rural part of Laurel County, and they are confident he will be caught soon. Lexington police used their helicopter to assist the search. Officials want to assure citizens they are safe at the moment because of the number of police agencies in the area. However, they are reminding people to stay vigilant and stay home. Anyone who is currently in the area is urged to follow directions from law enforcement, fire department personnel and road signs for remaining detours. KY 909 in Laurel County is still closed, along with both ramps of exit 49 closed as well. US 25 N is now open as of early this morning. Agencies that assisted in the search throughout the evening included: London City police, Kentucky state police, Corbin City Police, Williamsburg City Police, Richmond City Police, FBI, US Marshal service, ATF, Lexington Metro, Rockcastle County Sheriff’s office, Mount Vernon Police Department, East Bernstadt Fire and Rescue, London Fire Department, London – Laurel County Rescue Squad, Laurel County Emergency Management, ABC, Bluegrass Army Depot Police, and numerous area Fire departrments. Well according to wlky.com they have recovered the weapon used in the shooting an ar 15 assault rifle at least the authorities got the weapon hopefully couch is next he's still at large but the weapon was found recently

So according to CBS news he may have been injured during the shooting and they also recovered his car authorities are warning that even though they have recovered the assault rifle he may still be armed so residents should remain vigilant

I forgot to mention this last night they also found multiple fully loaded assault rifle magazines alongside the gun and car they found additionally they found his cellphone but the battery was removed and I read another article stated that he was in the national guard I am worried about this because couch can use his training to Survive in very rugged terrain especially in conditions like heavily wooded areas and can hide in various areas in the woods of southern Kentucky

This guy sent a message saying this very disturbing words it says "im going to kill a lot of people" minutes before the shooting this shows in my opinion that he's not only a loose cannon but this could have been a premeditated crime fortunately at this time none of the shooting victims have passed away but couch seems like a very disturbed but very self aware I don't think he is legally insane as far as I can tell he has not been on trouble with the law for anything this serious but a terroristic threat charge was dismissed recently but he also stated to the woman he sent the message to was his ex wife he planned to commit suicide so in addition to his reckless psychotic vile behavior he may have suicidal tendencies I hope he is taken into custody without incident I want him to face justice in this life as well but for certain he will face justice in the life after this one thats for sure

I think he's probably dead most mass shooters kill themselves after the event like what happened with the Maine shooter they just haven't found the body yet

I could see that as valid argument I personally think he is still alive I have read articles that said that but I think he using his survival military experiences and law enforcement thinks he is still alive I personally think hes took cocky to kill himself because he showed a lot of joy in harming people and terrorizing them he's probably utilizing the rough remote terrain I mean they are having to use machete like in a jungle to cut down foliage obstructing there path southern Kentucky is heavily Forested

I’m leaning towards dead tbh but if he is alive he seems like a survivalist type that could last longer than your usual breaking news case since usually everyone declares a guy “hide and seek champion” if he isn’t caught in five hours when the average breaking news high publicity capture like this is usually 7-14 days. I could see this one lasting a little longer.

Well I have a positive update from the governor of Kentucky who I actually think doing this is really awesome thing according to wtvq.com he announced that four of the five victims have been released from the hospital and the fifth is still in the hospital but is expected to survive and another thing I like is Andy beshear like Josh Shapiro actually visited law enforcement and thanked them and I think that is very awesome Shapiro during the Danelo cavalante from Chester county serving life in prison and Michael Burham who was arrested do to the loyal protection of a family and a chocolate lab named tucker and Shapiro did something cool and rewarded tucker with tennis balls I mean that shows me how awesome politicians can be I respect both of you Mr sharpiro and mr beshear for thanking the law enforcement of your states keep up the good work

According to the US Marshals x account couch now is being hunted by the us Marshals taskforce based in Kentucky authorities think he is still alive hiding in the Daniel boone national Forest using his survival skills and they are also offering a 25 grand reward for his apprehension

Yeah usually these are quick manhunts but I could see this as an Eric Frein type manhunt- rare exception to the rule- as opposed to a Danelo Cavalcante type manhunt (which despite everyone calling him hide and seek champion was actually a relatively quick manhunt). Hopefully not and he is caught or found deceased soon.

Eric frien I remember that case I watched his trial on the news especially his sentencing both were very similar in the survival skills category and surviving off the grid for awhile

A couple live streaming on the internet looking for couch made a gruesome discovery the found a body believed to be couch while it hasn't officially been identified as his it's most likely his it's was found near the shooting site on the highway after he wasn't found for two weeks I lost hope he would be found alive but at least he will never be able to hurt anyone else ever again
