Recently I discussed with HeadMarshal in an attempt to profile fugitives not just from the states and be somewhat World's Most Wanted as well, I will be doing one non-US or Canada Interpol fugitive a month on this site. I figure it's only natural for the first international fugitive under this new rule to be a guy AMW profiled- on their website at least. The following is the archive description of his case:
Suspected Drug Trafficking Leader Accused Of Killing Brazilian Cop
Police in Brazil are looking to find a man who they say ambushed a group of officers and killed one of their own – because he was the subject of a drug trafficking investigation.
In December 1999, a group of Brazilian police agents were traveling along the Guapore River. When they stopped to refuel their boat, Celso Schmitt and a number of other accomplices allegedly opened fire on them – killing one and seriously injuring two others.
Three others suspected of being involved in the shooting are Eliseu Schmitt, Amarinho Teixeira Ribeiro and Lazaro Clemente de Oliveira. Police believe those men went with Celso Schmitt to Bolivia.
Thoughts? One more possible clue is Schmitt is said to speak Spanish and Portuguese. AMW only profiled Celso Schmitt, but pictures of Ribeiro and de Oliveira are on the Interpol link below this profile (well, actually a google search that will lead you to the Interpol link since you have to download it as a PDF, but I promise it's safe). For some reason, there's not one of Eliseu but I am assuming all four men are still-at-large as of this posting date (3/15/2015) since Interpol hasn't mentioned any updates. I've had my complaints about Brazil not sending back Claudia Hoerig, but they have sent back other fugitives such as Jesse James Hollywood, and did at least arrest Victor Barnard. So if we want them to help us, let's also help them out and catch Schmitt and his alleged cohorts. E-mail Interpol if you know where these men are.

UPDATE: As of July 24th, 2018, Schimitt is still listed as a Red Notice wanted fugitive on Interpol's website www.interpol.int/notice/search/wanted/2018-16236
