SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Loved ones are praying for two young children to be brought back home safely after their mother was found dead in a North Sacramento home Monday.
The family identified the woman to KCRA 3 as 28-year-old Angelica Bravo. Sacramento police said the two children, 4-year-old Athena Lee and 2-year-old Mateo Lee, are believed to be with their father, Camron Lee. The car he is believed to be driving crossed into Mexico, according to police.
At this point, police have not called Camron a suspect in Angelica’s death. They reiterated that they just want to talk to him and find the two children. Angelica’s older sister, Cecelia Spencer, told KCRA 3 that she is not sure what happened, but she said Angelica and Camron’s relationship was tumultuous.
“They were really rocky, like sometimes it was okay, sometimes it was really bad, and yeah, I never thought that this would happen though and that he would take the kids,” Cecelia said.
Cecelia said she is still processing her sister’s death. But as she grapples with the devastating loss, she said she just wants Athena and Mateo to be brought back safely to the family.
“She would never want to leave her kids or her family, and I know that she did everything that she could, and it’s just really awful and sad, and now we know the only thing that she would want is for her babies to be reunited with us. And that’s all that we are hoping and praying for right now,” Cecelia said. “Please just bring them back. We don’t care what you do, just please bring them back to us.”
Angelica’s mother, Dawn Bodea, said Angelica and Camron were together for a long time but never married. She said Angelica recently moved to the Elk Grove area, but she would stop by the North Sacramento home where Lee lives to drop off the kids so they could spend time with their father.
“She used to live there, but she had moved out just a few months back and was trying to separate herself and kind of start a new life and make a better life for her kids,” Dawn said.
Dawn said one of Camron’s relatives was the person who called for the welfare check on Monday, after multiple family members, including Dawn, could not get a hold of Angelica or Camron.
“I tried calling him too, and it just went straight to voicemail, and that’s when I started, had just a bad feeling, and I started driving over there,” Dawn said.
Dawn said she is heartbroken that she will never get to spend another moment with her daughter.
“It’s unreal. It’s just a living nightmare,” Dawn said.
The family said that during the initial investigation Monday night, they told police Camron could be in Mexico. Sacramento police, however, told KCRA 3 that the family only said Camron had ties to Oak Park, Los Angeles and Mexico, not that he specifically planned to travel to Mexico.
Police announced Wednesday morning that they were alerted by Customs and Border Protection that the car Camron is believed to be driving crossed into Mexico. Angelica’s brother, Gilbert Bravo, said he wishes police had put out that information sooner.
“We knew that he was going to go to Mexico. We all knew that he has so many connections to everybody down there, and the police kept it on the low,” Gilbert said. “They should have put it out, but they kept it in the dark.”
Most of the family last saw Angelica at Gilbert’s high school graduation party over the weekend, but they said she acted oddly.
“She just didn’t seem like she was OK,” Angelica’s youngest sister, Lumina Bodea, said.
Angelica’s oldest daughter, Nathalia Bravo, gripped tightly to her mother’s journal while speaking to KCRA 3.
“I’m holding on to her notebook that she writes in sometimes, and I’m going to be writing in the pages next, so I don’t forget about her,” Nathalia said. “I’m keeping this in a safe place.”
As the family grieves Angelica’s death, they are holding on to hope that Athena and Mateo will be returned home safely.
“I just pray that someone will see him or see the kids and know that they’re missing and report them, and someone can get them back home to us,” Dawn said.
Cecelia added, “We’re still hoping they can be brought back.”
In a statement, Sacramento police said, “Athena and Mateo have been added into the Missing and Unidentified Persons System (MUPS), and this information has been shared by the California Department of Justice.”
Sacramento police have also created a tip line for anyone with any information about where Athena and Mateo could be. Those who know anything are asked to call 916-808-0560 or email missingpersons@pd.cityofsacramento.org.

Thoughts? A note that right now Camron Lee is only wanted for questioning. The best way to track the case right now seems to be the California Attorney General website where as of August 7th, 2024, Camron is still actively listed as a missing person and Athena and Mateo are also actively listed as missing children.
