His charges include armed robbery, attempted murder, and allegedly shot at officers in a high-speed chase following a bank robbery, and he has been profiled on AMW since 1998, when he was a young adult. www.seplis.com/show/americas-most-wanted/1732/episode-list/season-12/A recent development sent a shockwave because of how random and unrelated it would seem in comparison to Barrera's usual mo: In 2007, a woman named Randi Gorenberg was abducted from ther town center mall in Delray Beach, Florida. She was later found shot to death and pushed out of her SUV. Theories flew, many thinking perhaps it was the same person who shot and killed two other victims of an unsolved AMW case- Nancy and Joey Boccihcio, a mother and her 7-year old daughter who were also adbucted and later killed outside a mall in Florida. However, police finally had a new suspect- Michel Barrera- his name repeatedly came up from MS-13 gang members. It's one of the rare times I can recall an AMW fugitive already aired for years suddenly being named in another case that was featured on AMW. (It should be noted Barrera was never linked to the Nancy and Joey Bocchicio murders officially and hasn't been charged or named as a person of interest. He has been named a person of interest in the murder of Randi Gorenberg, however.) www.palmbeachpost.com/news/news/crime-law/detectives-in-gorenberg-murder-want-to-question-mi/nLsxb/ Thoughts? Having watched AMW years I remember when AMW first profiled Barrera as a 19-year old (can't remember the exact age but he was obviously very young) and the detective saying something along the lines of "some people think he's just a kid. He's committed armed robbery, he's shot at police officers. He's not just a kid. He's dangerous" and now those words are apparently prophetic with Barrera I'm assuming now around 32. An article I read suggests Barrera may be travelling between South Florida and Mexico. Barrera needs to be caught for his early alleged crimes and answer some serious questions about whether he was involved in the Randi Gorenberg case. miami.cbslocal.com/2011/06/03/break-in-gorenberg-murder-case/UPDATE: As of July 24th, 2018, Barrera still comes up as having a warrant according to Florida's public access wanted persons search website: pas.fdle.state.fl.us/pas/restricted/PAS/person/WantedPersons.jsfAdmin Note: If you have any news-related updates on this case, please contact us here: amwfans.com/thread/1662/website-contact-form

Barrera was also the original 50/50 fugitive out of Florida. Anyway, it seems like Barrera has a high enough position in MS-13 that an ordinary tipster isn't going to recongize him on the street and call authorities in fear of retaliation. It may take Barrera being captured similarly to that of Raul Sandoval.

True. I take it those constantly crossing the border are more at risk than those that stay in Mexico.
Barrera's connection to the Randi Gorenberg case still baffles me. I'm not saying he didn't do it, but I don't see what a guy known as a gang banger would have to do with a 52-year old woman who seemed to have a normal job being abducted and thrown out a van. He was more known for robbing banks and home invasions and if he was to be named in a murder, you'd think it would be against other gang members a la Jose Luis Saenz.
Not saying he didn't do it as obviously enough people have named him. Then again, he was known for allegedly doing home invasion robberies posed as a cop, so he has allegedly committed crimes against regular citizens before.

I'm not sure if I've read this somewhere but perhaps Randi Gorenburg's murder was an initation for another MS-13 gang member that Barrera oversaw.

If I did my math right, according to the old site, Barrera was only 17 when he robbed the first bank. Very dangerous for someone that young.
Anyway, I'm always skeptical about inmate testimony, since they're almost always just looking out for themselves, but I do have a hard time believing this guy just picked Barrera's name out of nowhere. That tells me he's at least somewhat involved.

A gang initiation makes a lot of sense.
Also, the article posted is just one informant but I can swear his latest AMW airings mentioned he was "repeatedly" brought up in the case.

The people who run the Nancy & Joey Bochicchio Memorial website want Barrera questioned in that double homicide as well. Under "Facts About The Case", one of Nancy's friends called her cellphone one day after the murder and a man answered in spanish. Future calls went to voicemail. Also if the man depicted in the sketch is actually Barrera, he could have gotten a tan in the years on the run and his last known photos don't really show him as that dark-skinned. The height and age-range is slightly off from Barrera's amw.com physical description but not by that much (Barrera could have gotten taller because he was only a teenager when he went on the run). Also the site's wanted poster describes the killer as being either white or hispanic. Also under "similar cases", a pregnant store clerk was robbed and bound with zip ties in 2007 at her Miami-metro area business by two hispanic males. The heights of those two don't match Barrera but there may be a connection. www.bochicchiomemorial.com/

If I recall the AMW airing on the Bocchichio case, the same man who murdered Nancy and Joey is thought to have held another woman and her child hostage but they survived the ordeal. I wonder if that woman was shown Barrera's picture. He would have been in disguise regardless but still.
I'm a bit hesitant to link Barrera to the Bocchichio case, but you have to investigate every possible lead at this point. It's certainly worth looking into the possibility there may be a connection.

Police are investigating a home robbery in Hialeh, Florida where three men posed as FBI agents. The article never states it and this is just me speculating, but considering this is in the general Miami area where Barrera's known crime spree started, does anyone else wonder about the possibility of a connection here? This crime fits his m.o. to a T. m.nbcmiami.com/nbcmiami/pm_108209/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=A70okRqf

If he's still in the Miami area that basically tells me his apparent MS-13 status is convincing potential tipsters to remain silent.

Even if there are fugitives that I have more of a personal passion for hoping they get caught than Barrera, I will admit he probably belongs in the top 10 scariest still-at-large AMW fugitives. He was allegedly shooting at cops as a teenager! It doesn't get much scarier than that.

While it definitely could be Barrera, I have another theory. If its true hes supposed to be a recruit for MS-13, it's possible these were guys trained by him in his way of robbing people. The last thing Miami needs is a bunch of young Barreras running around commiting crimes.

No new information, but something interesting I just realized. As we all know, the detective in Florida was contacted by the inmate who said he heard Barrera might have been involved in Randi Gorenberg's murder.
Interestingly, Barrera had actually been profiled in March 2011, just about three months before this new development was revealed. I wonder if maybe the inmate saw Barrera's profile and realized he might have been the one involved.
It could be a coincidence, but it's something I just noticed.

Has the inmate ever given details that could lead to barrera's capture?

I think Barrera is a candidate for the Ten Most Wanted List at this point. He is wanted for two very violent bank robberies (he was on the FBI's site at one point). Thing is, if he's wanted for questioning for a murder, the fact that he is still wanted on federal charges is still enough to put him on the list. When Andrew Cunanan was on the list, he was only charged with one murder, and was wanted for questioning in the other four.
