ADMIN UPDATE: Brandon Flores has been arrested in Mexico. However, the extradition process for sending him back from Mexico could take up to one year.
CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas – Capital murder charges have been accepted against 27-year-old Valentin Jose Lazo, Jr., and 21-year-old Richard Gonzalez for their alleged involvement in the murders of missing Baytown teens Alex Chavez and Jarvis Morgan, investigators confirmed Saturday.
Lazo and Gonzalez were with Brandon Flores, who was also charged in the teens' deaths, at the time of their murders, investigators said.
Lazo and Gonzalez were taken into custody, pending their capital murder charge in Chambers County. They are now in the Chambers County Jail under no bond.
"They both confessed to being present and complicit in the abduction," said Asst. Chief Roger Clifford, with Baytown police. "Both were present during the murder and took no action to stop it."
They claimed they were innocent as they were transferred to Chambers County custody.
Baytown police have confirmed that the bodies found near Anahuac are those of two teenagers reported missing over two weeks ago.
The bodies of Chavez and Morgan were located under a bridge at FM 563 at Eagle Ferry Thursday.
At a press conference on Friday, the Chambers County Sheriff's Office said the bodies appeared to have been moved from another location to Double Bayou where they were found. Autopsies are currently being carried out to determine the causes of death in the case.
The sheriff's office also said 20-year-old Brandon Flores of Beach City has been charged with capital murder in the case. As of 8 p.m. Saturday, Flores is not yet in custody.
Officials have not discussed a possible motive in the case.
"We will find Brandon Flores, and he will ultimately be brought to justice," said Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne.
Chambers County Attorney Cheryl Lieck says she looks forward to prosecuting these cases and getting justice for the families. She urged the public to be patient and let the investigation play out.
Police are also still looking for Jose Chavez, who goes by "Chop". He is a person of interest in this case.
"This is not television," said Lieck. "These cases aren't investigated and prosecuted in under an hour; we have been following leads from the beginning."
(edit to above article: Chavez and Flores now both captured. However, Flores has not yet been extradited back to the U.S.).
Admin Note: Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Flores is asked to call the Baytown Police Department at 281-422-8371 or Baytown Crime Stoppers 281-427-TIPS (8477).
