A teen is wanted for a Charlotte man's death that happened at a flea market earlier in May.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said Tuesday that officers were looking for 19-year-old Juan David Rodriguez Garcia. He's accused of killing 51-year-old Shawn Dwayne Powell and has active arrest warrants for murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Police warn that Garcia should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who knows where he is should call (704) 336-8228 to speak with CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team immediately, or 9-1-1 if more urgent.
Anyone with further information on the case can also call (704) 432-TIPS to talk with a homicide unit detective. Crime Stoppers also accepts tips phoned in to (704) 334-1600 or submitted online.
The shooting that claimed Powell's life unfolded on May 5 at a flea market along Albemarle Road in the eastern part of the city. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of now, CMPD has not shared what happened before the shooting.
Powell's sister reached out to WCNC Charlotte on Wednesday to share fond memories of him. Michelle Powell-Jones said those fond moments spanned from childhood to adulthood.
"Growing up, we would wait for Santa to come," she said. "Also as an adult, he was always there if I needed him. One time I was visiting my aunt in Connecticut and my back went out, so I couldn't drive back to Charlotte. He dropped everything and took a plane to New Haven and drove my car back to Charlotte with my doggie Lola."
Powell-Jones said her brother was a devoted father and gave of himself to family and friends. He also loved a good debate. Most importantly, Powell-Jones said his children all provide open windows into his legacy.
"They each have something, whether it be his mannerism, his features," she said. "He was one of a kind and loved very much by his family and friends."

Thoughts? As far as I can tell, Garcia is still at large as of today’s posting date (May 25th, 2024), since the above article is from only a few days ago with no updates about a capture that I could find online since.
