(Above photo credit: abc7amarillo.com via New Mexico State Police) From abc7amarillo.com: TUCUMCARI, NEW MEXICO (KVII) — The man wanted for killing a New Mexico State Police officer near Tucumcari was identified. Jaremy Smith, 32, of Marion, South Carolina is the subject of a large manhunt. According to NMSP Chief Troy Weisler, Smith shot Officer Justin Hare on Friday. Smith had a flat tire on I-40. Smith is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. If seen, call the New Mexico State Police at (505) 425-6771 or dial 911.New Mexico State Police issued an arrest warrant for Smith, charging him with first degree murder, armed robbery, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, tampering with evidence, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, and criminal damage to property. abc7amarillo.com/amp/news/local/man-wanted-for-killing-new-mexico-state-police-officer-near-tucumcari-identified-jeramy-smith-justin-hare-murder-armed-robbery-shooting-at-from-motor-vehicle-tampering-with-evidence-felon-possession-firearm-unlawful-taking-motor-vehicleThoughts? This is a breaking news case so Smith is still at large at the moment on March 16th, 2024. This is a fluid situation though so I will continue to monitor the manhunt. I hope like Andre Gordon Mr Smith goes down easy but given that he is wanted for the murder of a police officer and is suspected in the death of South Carolina paramedic im would say this guy scares me more than Andre Gordon because he was taken into custody but this guy seems to be deliberately targeting first responders to our forum members of both states stay safe and remain vigilant

While Smith should be considered armed and dangerous, I realize it sort of contradicts the message of our site, but I never want to panic people for no reason. I do not know why he shot the officer as it is possible he perhaps was paranoid the officer would find out about the paramedic, Phonesia Machado-Fore, who he allegedly murdered. We also do not know if Jaremy knew Phonesia prior to being a person of interest in her death. Not that it makes it any better, but he may have had motive as opposed to randomly killing people.
Anyone who may be in area with Smith should be cautious and vigilant, but I also don't want to panic people into thinking he's going to shoot them for no reason. People should be on alert, securing their homes looking behind them when driving etc.., but they also should still go on with their lives.
It is of course still imperative to catch Smith and he is of course a danger to both 911 branch personnel and the general public until he's caught.
So yeah I hope this message wasn't too confusing but for the TL/DR crowd, don't overly panic but still remain vigilant.

Ok I think I found out a brief timeline the paramedic he has been linked to was the first victim he stole her car after she went missing so he allegedly killed the paramedic in south Carolina and then stole her car and fled to new Mexico in the paramedics car and then he went onto allegedly gun down trooper hare who was trying to help him he was just trying to help out someone in need but Smith for reasons unknown I'm thinking it was either because he was afraid of been linked to the stolen vehicle of the South Carolina victim which since he took it over state lines it's a federal crime or theory number 2 he's a sociopathic heartless monster anyway I think both of these maybe good theories anyway smith maybe heading to Albuquerque as an article i read he has ties there but hes fled on foot but the Fact that he had brought the car over multiple states this makes it a federal crime also he maybe facing federal gun charges since not only did he bring a loaded gun across state lines which is a serious offense but he also may face federal charges in relating to him being a convicted felon as they are barred from having weapons but he may face more under federal statutes this just my opinion but in my free time I like reading about laws both federal and state

Not sure if you saw my above reply first but a bit coincidental you said the same thing. If the FBI had an open spot, he'd be a candidate for a breaking news case I'd surmise.

I wonder which state will try him first. Guess it depends whether they want him to face execution or not, as South Carolina has the DP and New Mexico does not. Should be noted he's only face charges (so far) of murder in NM.

Yeah has he changed with the murder in south Carolina according to koat.com a witness who's backyard smith fled to was a witness to the arrest said smith was shot in a neighboring back wall of a home the witness who was being interviewed said he actually had his gun drawn but the deputy made the witness go back inside and I also read that smith is in the hospital recovering from the encounter with police but I'm thinking the south Carolina authorities are going to be charging him and im thinking they'll be seeking the dp for him given linked to the murder of a first responder
