A gunman is on the loose after killing a man and attacking four others in a spree of random shootings in the Houston area, police said.
The serial shooter has attacked five times in the last week, police said, noting that they do not know his motive or a connection to his victims. He targets pedestrians and fires from a dark SUV, authorities said.
The gunman first struck Feb. 17. He drove up to a 21-year-old college student in Missouri City, Texas, at about 7 p.m. and aimed his gun, according to ABC13. The firearm jammed and the victim ran away uninjured.
A half hour later, the gunman killed Pak Ho, 34, in a drive-by shooting while the man went for a walk in Houston, police said. Ho died at an area hospital.
Witnesses said they saw a dark Jeep Cherokee fleeing the scene, according to KHOU.
Three hours later, the gunman shot at a man walking on the 7900 block of Belbay St., police said. The man was shot in the buttocks but managed to escape.
The killer was not finished. He drove about 15 miles and shot a man waiting at a bus stop at about 1 a.m., police said. Donald Ashford, 50, was hit multiple times and is expected to survive.
On Monday, a fourth person was shot in the arm and stomach in Missouri City.
Police released a sketch of the gunman Tuesday.
"We're looking for a black male, light skin, possible mixed race, stocky build, early 30s," Houston Sgt. Tommy Ruland said.
Police believe he is driving a dark 1999 to 2006 Jeep Cherokee.
I would not walk alone if it were me," Ruland said. "I would walk in groups. Beware of your surroundings."
Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to an arrest. They ask tipsters to call 713-308-3600.
