IRVING, Texas - Irving police are looking for the suspect in a shooting that killed a mother and daughter last Friday.
The victims' family members say the suspect is someone one of the victims knew well.
Police released photos of 33-year-old Hector Matute, who is accused of killing 23-year-old Nayeli Bolaños Medina and her mother, 56-year-old Juana Medina Rodriguez.
Matute has a warrant for capital murder in connection to the incident.
Irving police say Matute, who is also known as Hector Paguada, knew the victims, but the motive for the shooting is unclear at this time.
Police say Matute allegedly shot the mother and daughter just before 9 p.m. last Friday at the Park Springs apartments on West Irving Boulevard. He’s been on the run since.
Elvis Alberto Medina told FOX 4 he’s never met Matute but says his mom and sister knew him.
Elvis doesn’t know why Matute would be at the same apartment as his mom, sister and his sister’s 5-year-old son. He says the 5-year-old witnessed the shooting.
Irving police still don’t have a motive. They only shared Matute knew the victims.
The front steps of the apartment are covered in flowers and candles placed there by friends, like Tamara She didn’t want to give her full name or show her face since no one's in custody yet, but she did want to remember her friend, Juana, who was like a sister.
"When I got the news, I was in shock," Tamara said. "Juana’s always gonna be remembered as a beautiful person in my heart, always."
Tamara says her friend loved being a grandma.
"It’s sad to hear he’s gonna be left without a mom and a grandma. He didn’t deserve that, no child does," she said.
Elvis is still processing life without his mom and sister. He wants Matute to be caught and is asking anyone who knows him or knows his whereabouts to contact police and bring justice for his sister and mother.
The consulate of El Salvador in Dallas is helping the family with funeral arrangements to bury the mother and daughter in their home country.
Irving police are asking anyone with information about Matute's whereabouts to call their local police department. They say no one should attempt to contact or apprehend him.

Thoughts? As of today’s posting date (January 26th, 2024), there is still a posting on the Irving Police Department’s Facebook page about Matute that is yet to be edited or updated with any news of a capture. And yes unfortunately this is a horrific tragedy striking twice since as we AMW fans know Irving, Texas is where Yaser Said shot and killed his two daughters Sarah and Amina Said. And in another eerie coincidence, this also happened in January. We can only hope the wait for justice for Nayeli and Juana does not take over a decade like it did for Sarah and Amina
