Upcoming on AMW- Season 27- 2024

Also reading an article and fentanyl is one of the drugs Young allegedly trafficked- with multiple overdose deaths suspected as a result. I don’t condone cocaine and other drugs but fentanyl is by far the worst and I’ve advocated that I actually wouldn’t mind seeing a fentanyl dealer on the top ten list.

I also want to note that I don't think all the flaws from 2021 are magically fixed- as I went from being sorta meh to being perhaps too positive now lol- but that I feel beggars can't be choosers and I'm just happy to have some form of OG AMW back now that the Walshes are back. (Unlike 2021, I don't even care that I/this website is not being contacted at all once again- I'm just happy to have hopefully the original show I dedicated myself too somewhat back with some 2023 tweaks)- so everyone else can feel free to critique but I'll probably be admittedly biased now (unless as pakman alluded to they start making John Walsh ask if you've seen a fugitive on a random day in 1977 like they made Liz Vargas do- but until then I'll be biased lol).

Considering In Pursuit is only 6 episodes for season 5 instead of the usual 12 episode season that makes 12 fugitive episodes of tv shows in 2024 anyway lol. Hopefully there will be a renewal at least once In Pursuit is finished.

I'm going to be honest- perhaps it's my fault because I wasn't overly thrilled when I first heard AMW was coming back since I thought it was going to be the same disappointment as 2021 and we already had In Pursuit to satisfy my fugitive crime show bingeing- but I thought like me we'd be a little more enthusiastic once we found out John and Cal were the new hosts. My opinion obviously changed immediately. I get it- no one will help if the show has the same bad writing, overly corny re-enactments (AMW's re-enactments have always been on the cheesy side but 2021 seemed to just be really out of place with overly sexual tones or way over the top acting in some stories and stuff) etc... but I'm willing to give the show the benefit of the doubt now that they've done at least one thing right and that's bring the Walsh family back.

I also get a lot of it isn't us but worrying about ratings and the fans- and I'll be honest- while those of us on this forum are great- the "average" AMW fan not on this forum is a lot less loyal than the average Unsolved Mysteries fan- where all their episodes are still in tact and there's still a large online presence aside from just one forum. I see fans who basically abandoned the show when it was cancelled by Fox in 2011 asking about fugitives who were caught years ago. I get if some of them didn't have cable to watch The Hunt or In Pursuit but a lot just disappeared off the face of the Earth- and then they didn't watch in 2021 when AMW finally did come back because it "wasn't John Walsh." Where were they all these years as maybe AMW would have come back sooner if they didn't abandon ship so fast. So I get if the reason for apprehension is these types of fans- based on how they've behaved it's understandable to not have the most faith they'll finally watch the show again even after getting what they wanted- but I'd like to think initial interest maybe even from some people who didn't know about the reboot attempt in 2021 will happen and hopefully lead to some sticking around and new viewers as well.

TL:Dr: AMW and the Walshes are back. The show shouldn't be free from criticism or worry about whether or not 2021's issues have been fixed and/or the fans of AMW besides us have admittedly not been as loyal as UM fans, but we should still be excited and willing to give the benefit of the doubt until January.

Yeah they may choose to wait until before each episode to not spoil anything/give heads up but who knows. Liz Vargas is still listed in the cast though which I hope is fixed- as I feel like it's unintentionally piling on that 2021 was a failure with her as host when in actuality she was the least of the issues. It's also quite possible that she wasn't even going to be replaced but had too busy a schedule to host AMW again since she's now a nightly anchor on News Nation and has a syndicated crime show as well and that's the reason they were at first going to go with Chris Hansen but then once JW became available again everything fell beautifully into place.

I'd obviously rather have John and Cal but that's not meant as a disrespect to Vargas- I'd rather have John and Cal than anybody.

So if the Walsh Father and Son duo are back on AMW, what’s going to happen to In Pursuit beyond 2024?

I’m actually really happy they’re going to be back on AMW where they belong, and if John is thinking about retiring, I feel this is a great way to go out, with the show that made him a pop culture icon.
