I am cautiously optimistic about season 27 of AMW and John and Callahan being the official hosts. There are a lot of really bad and dangerous fugitives that do need the national/international publicity. This is from the perspective of both public safety and getting justice and accountability for the victims and their families.
The only concern I potentially have is the expectation that longtime AMW fugitives will be profiled. The reason is that longtime fans need a resolution to cases they saw on television for years. I am an outlier on this site in that I no longer find cases more relevant if they were publicized on television. The same goes for major most wanted list cases. I have no objection to cases getting that kind of publicity. I am just trying to say that fugitives pose a threat to society and need to be arrested regardless of what kind of publicity the case has received.
This may seem odd based on the fugitive cases I tend to post each week, but I feel that a lot of fugitives from Scumhunter's year-end most wanted lists should be looked at. Most of them have been wanted during this decade but they would be most likely to be arrested based on television publicity. The long-time cold case fugitives are unfortunately going to be harder to find and some will never be found. I simply want the show to be successful from the total volume of direct captures it can obtain. This is especially considering In Pursuit's capture drought.
Aside from that, the writing does need to be improved (Pakman's main point) and we really do not need more caught on tape unsolved robbery cases with no fugitive suspect.
Finally, the case descriptions that will be profiled include "horrific murders and deadly drug rings to devastating teenage overdoses and more,” according to the link that theczar posted.

It is Fox and apparently same producer from 2021 so I expect some sensationalism however I feel the Walsh family and their public advocacy background will balance it out and be a nice yin yang. I appreciate you advocating for my cases though lol. I’m just happy to have somewhat of the original AMW back with some new twists I’m sure.

I'll address this in the other thread but In Pursuit will have one more season which will likely be the last. With the truncated season and cuts at Discovery (the channel just isn't what it used to be, if you look there's very few new shows at ID and a lot of repeats and such), it was perfect timing for John Walsh to ask the President of ID to let him out of his contract, and he was compassionate enough to understand that AMW was his true legacy.

I’m excited to see “America’s Most Wanted” return with John Walsh as the host, especially since I never saw the original run of the show back in the 1990’s and early 2000’s when I was growing up (I don’t recall it airing on any Canadian TV channels when I was a kid)!
I do wonder whether they will show old segments from years ago and provide updates? I think it would be great to show the old segments done for Jaycee Dugard, Amanda Berry and Gina deJesus and then give an update as to how they are doing now!
I do wish Fox would be willing to post old episodes on YouTube legally like what was done for “Unsolved Mysteries”!

I’m assuming this will be a more look towards the future and not past version of AMW but maybe they’ll show some cold cases again who knows.

I will say that maybe the only downside is that we likely won’t be seeing any official releases on YouTube of the original episodes like what was done for “Unsolved Mysteries” since the show is returning.

They are/were never going to release those anyway, whether or not AMW ever came back, so I see that as a moot non positive or negative lol. I am looking forward to a modern AMW with the Walsh family with maybe a few cold cases here and there.

I hope they bring back the reenactments I have a feeling that the episode format may be similar to AMW Season 26 with Elizabeth Vargas. I do however support re-enactments for certain cases. I also support the idea the episode format in general will be improved with John and Callahan involved.

Also just noticed the show will still be aired on Mondays. The Monday airing was one of the primary ratings problem with Season 26. Has the competition for Monday night airings become less of a problem?

Obviously I'm very excited that the Walsh family is returning to AMW. It'll certainly make the show better, but I'll wait to reserve judgment until I see it for myself. While Season 26 had some great going for it (Elizabeth Vargas was a great host, and I loved that some older AMW fugitives got new airings), there were also plenty of issues with it.
Here's what I'm hoping for:
1. A better balance of older and newer cases. I truly think they should only air one archived AMW fugitive per episode, and the rest of the cases should be more recent ones, preferably those with less publicity.
2. Pace and plan the episodes better. Nearly every case in Season 26 had a two-part segment. That's not necessary. Josephine Overaker did not need two full segments to talk about how she's an accused eco-terrorist. At most, she should have gotten an APB-length airing.
3. Related to that, have smaller airings of fugitives/missing persons sprinkled throughout the show. And don't let them be all unknown cases with grainy surveillance footage.
4. Most importantly to me, get a better writer. HeadMarshal alluded to this in his post, but as professional writer myself, I was horrified at some of what Elizabeth Vargas was reading off her teleprompter. ("If you saw Larry Chism in 1978...call our hotline now." I don't think the U.S. Marshals care if someone saw Larry Chism in 1978, I think they'd rather know what he's doing at this moment.) I'm not blaming her for that, but viewers aren't going to care that someone wrote that, they care that somebody said it.
Still, I'm really curious to see AMW's return and I'm hoping John and Cal can bring new life into it.

In regards to Parkman’s second and third points, I actually agree with them but I do not believe they will happen. The true-crime audience today doesn’t want to be informed about numerous cases in a hour. They want to be engrossed in cases that they find either interesting or emotional.
But yes, if the focus is to be about public awareness and getting as many direct captures as possible, then Pakman’s second and third points need to happen.
The fact that covering these cases needs to be “emotional” is a reason why we may not get voiced re-enactments. Voiced re-enactments are not as emotional as families talking about the crime. I personally caution media from trying to make cases overly emotional because that does tend to exploit families who are dealing with grief.

Also just noticed the show will still be aired on Mondays. The Monday airing was one of the primary ratings problem with Season 26. Has the competition for Monday night airings become less of a problem? I believe reruns of 911 were beating American Idol so it seemed to be an AMW problem and not a night problem after all. I also think that AMW ironically is now cheap compared to scripted programming so in addition to the public service it does it’s sort of not that ratings aren’t important but they aren’t AS important or at least I hope. It’s a cheap public service that as long as it does just “aight” it saves Fox money and gives them good will and good publicity when captures happen. It’s also important to note that AMW will also be available on Hulu and Fox Nation so ratings can’t just be judged by whether or not they beat American Idol live but how many people watch via DVR and streaming as well. The ratings still weren’t as good as they could have been in 2021 because in my opinion viewers wanted John Walsh. Now they got John Walsh, and I am calling these people out to actually watch the show and make sure it never gets cancelled again

Also although I prefer a different night the other reason I think Fox is sort of forced to go with Mondays is Saturdays are sports programs and Friday and Saturday would have AMW competing with the very popular On Patrol: Live for true crime eyeballs (and it seems most OPL viewers prefer to watch it live as opposed to DVR). Scheduling-wise I think weekends just are unfortunately not a possibility anymore.
