NEW PORT RICHEY — A man and a woman suspected of killing multiple people early Monday remained at large into the night after committing what may have been a drug-related hit, authorities said.
Several bodies were found in a small trailer home about 5 a.m. Monday after a caller reported gunshots fired in the Moon Lake neighborhood of New Port Richey.
Christopher Lee Duncan, 26, and Dora Delgado, 38, are considered armed and dangerous and were last seen in a blue Ford sport utility vehicle, authorities said. The number of victims and their names were still not disclosed Monday evening as officials struggled to notify their families.
"Drugs may be involved in this case and it may be a targeted hit," Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said. "Anybody who commits homicides like this could possibly harm other people. These are violent individuals, there's no doubt about that."
Major crimes and forensics units were investigating at the trailer near Banbury Avenue and Adler Street. A medical examiner was still working to determine the causes of death Monday evening.
Earlier in the day, friends and family members gathered in small clusters, talking with victim advocates and taking shelter from the rain as they waited for news.
Billy Huckeby, 46, of Palm Harbor smoked Marlboros and looked toward the red-and-white trailer where he said his 25-year-old son Justin Huckeby had been living. He said he wished the Sheriff's Office would give him more information about the victims inside the home, who he suspected include his son.
"He was a good kid, and he wouldn't deserve that no matter what," Huckeby said. "Nobody would."
Huckeby said his son had gotten into drugs in the last four years, though he was clean for a stint last year. He said he hasn't seen Justin in about eight months, though they kept in touch. Justin had recently told his father he planned to get his driver's license on Monday.
Huckeby remembered building motorcycles with his son and watching him play guitar with his two brothers growing up.
"I bought him his first guitar when he was 14," he said. Justin played in a rock band called Psychotic Liberty with another resident of the house, Shane Newland, who friends said is in his early 40's. A girlfriend of one of the men lived there, too, Huckeby said.
Newland's friend Tracy Adkins, 46, of Hudson said he is funny and loving. She said if there were drugs in the home, they were kept confidential.
"It doesn't make sense. Who would do it? For what?" she said at the scene. "I hope they rot and they get what they deserve when they get caught."
The Ford SUV has a Florida tag number of CDAA98, authorities said. Nocco asked anyone with information about the killings and the whereabouts of the suspects to contact the Sheriff's Office by calling 1-800-706-2488 or by clicking on "submit tips" at www.pascosheriff.us.
Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay has offered a cash reward for anyone with information leading to the suspects' arrests. Crime Stoppers can be reached at 1-800-873-8477 (TIPS).
