Danelo Cavalcante, 34, escaped from the Chester County Prison in Pocopson Township at 8:50 a.m., Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said. Cavalcante was convicted of murdering his former girlfriend on Aug. 16, just two weeks before he escaped. Cavalcante was sentenced to life in prison without the chance for parole, NBC Philadelphia reported. Cavalcante is also wanted in connection with a 2017 murder in Brazil, where he is originally from, the district attorney's office said. An alert was issued to residents within 6 miles of the prison as U.S. marshals, Pennsylvania State Police and Chester County law enforcement officers search for Cavalcante.
"If you see him do not approach him. We're asking you please to contact 911," Ryan said at a news conference. "He is considered extremely dangerous. We are in the process of setting up a tip line and asking the community for their help."Howard Holland, the acting warden, did not detail how Cavalcante is believed to have escaped. There are now details on the murder Cavalcante is accused of in Brazil: "The crime that forced Danelo Cavalcante to flee his native Brazil took place in a public square in a city in the country’s northern region, according to reports from the Brazilian news outlet G1. Valter Júnior Moreira dos Reis was shot early on Nov. 5, 2017, inside a cafeteria in Figueirópolis, a municipality in the state of Toncantins, G1 reported. Investigators in Brazil said Cavalcante fired six times at Moreira dos Reis at close range, and then stole his cellphone before fleeing the scene. Local prosecutors in Chester County have said that Cavalcante, a former street gang member, allegedly committed the murder over a debt that the victim owed him. After the fatal shooting, Cavalcante traveled to Puerto Rico, where he obtained a fake ID, prosecutors said. From there, he made his way to America, and settled initially in the Phoenixville area. He killed her after finding out about his murder in Brazil and threatened to turn him in. This goes to show he truly has nothing to lose.

A homeowner apparently shot at him too. This is the catch-22 (no pun intended) of the off-topic rant I made. On one hand I'm annoyed at all the "what's taking so long?" people when in actuality Cavalcante has only been on the run for two days longer than Casey White and not yet as long as Richard Matt and David Sweat. People are just used to being able to download songs in 5 seconds now they think a massive police manhunt with somone who doesn't want to be found should work the same way. At the same time, as mentioned earlier, the longer this goes on, the more you fear a Gonzalo Lopez repeat. Cavalcante seems to be in won't be taken alive mode right now, and you just have to hope no one else goes with him.
