From goerie.com:
Authorities have upped the offering for information leading to the apprehension of an Erie man accused of attempting to kill law enforcement officers during a pursuit and shooting in the city 11 months ago.
Reward money now totaling $25,000 is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Rakeem M. Jones, the U.S. Marshals Service announced on Monday.
Jones, 29, whose case is featured on the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers website, is wanted by agencies including the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force, the Pennsylvania State Police and the Erie Bureau of Police on charges in an incident that happened along Chestnut Street in Erie on June 25.
Authorities accuse Jones and his accused accomplice, Shadarryl P. Jones, 29, of Erie, of firing gunshots at Pennsylvania State Police troopers and at an Erie police officer as they fled from a state police traffic stop. No one was reported injured in the shootings but police vehicles were damaged, according to investigators.
Jones has been on the run since the incident. Shadarryl Jones was apprehended in Mercer County in late July and has been in the Erie County Prison on $1 million bond since his arraignment. His case is scheduled for trial in June.
Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers in July put up a $2,000 reward for information on Jones. The reward was increased to $4,500 in February when authorities announced that the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was also offering some reward money.
Chestnut Street shooting
Rakeem and Shadarryl Jones are each charged with offenses including three counts of attempted homicide in the June 25 shooting. According to investigators, two state police troopers were attempted to stop a speeding Mitsubishi as it was traveling north on Chestnut Street when the Mitsubishi stopped, one occupant got out and gunshots were fired at the police patrol vehicle.
One of the troopers returned fire before the person got back into the Mitsubishi and it sped off traveling north, investigators reported.
An Erie police officer who was on patrol began pursuing the Mitsubishi and was fired on after the Mitsubishi crashed into a parked vehicle at West 16th and Chestnut streets. At least one of the shots hit an occupied house, and the bullet was found in the bedroom of an 11-year-old boy, Erie police reported.
The Erie police officer did not return fire, according to investigators.
Robbery and shooting
Shortly before the pursuit, Erie police accused Rakeem and Shadarryl Jones of robbing another man and firing a gunshot at him in the 2600 block of Poplar Street. According to investigators, the victim said he was getting something out of his vehicle when he was struck in the head and knocked to the ground.
The victim said the suspects stole cash and two gold chains from him and fired a gunshot at him as the suspects ran away, according to investigators.
Rakeem and Shadarryl Jones were each charged with offenses including attempted homicide and robbery in the incident. The charges against Shadarryl Jones were dismissed at his preliminary hearing in late September after Erie 6th Ward District Judge Timothy Beveridge said the victim failed to appear for a second scheduled hearing.
The charges against Rakeem Jones in the incident still stand.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Rakeem Jones is asked to contact Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers at 800-472-8477 or www.pacrimestoppers.org.
