Amanda Kay Jones was first aired on the August 20th, 2005 episode of America's Most Wanted on Fox. Last August, the FBI announced a $20,000 reward for information in her case. Below is the FBI site description:
"The FBI is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to the location of Amanda Kay Jones and her (unborn) child, and/or for information leading to the identity of the person(s) involved with their disappearance.
Amanda Kay Jones was 8 1/2 months pregnant when she disappeared. The alleged father of her unborn child is reportedly the last known person to see her. The two met at the Hillsboro Civic Center on August 14, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. During the meeting, Amanda answered a call on her cell phone from a relative at approximately 1:15 p.m. After the meeting, no one else is known to have seen or heard from Amanda. Later that night, Amanda’s blue 1997 Pontiac Sunfire was found unlocked and abandoned in the Civic Center parking lot. Her purse, car keys, wallet, and cell phone have not been found.
Amanda Kay Jones was last seen wearing the outfit in the full-length photo above. It was a pink sleeveless top, a pink and white flowered skirt, and pink sandals. She was carrying a pink purse, also pictured above. Additionally, she has a tattoo of a dolphin on her left breast. Jones wears eyeglasses, but was wearing contact lenses at the time of her disappearance. Jones also has a medical condition."
Thoughts? According to the Charley Project, Amanda had met with the alleged father, Bryan Westfall to discuss what involvement he wanted in his child's life. He said to have been cooperative with law enforcement and maintains his innocence. A CNN transcript even says he was no longer a suspect as of 2011 (he was described as still a "person of interest" but not in a criminal sense). Jones also had a former husband who was not considered a suspect and passed away in 2007.
When there is either a suspect and/or a person speculated about in a missing child or unsolved murder case, I find it perhaps the most difficult thing to talk about on this forum. There's a tightrope to be walked on whether you think someone is involved or not. It's not just a professional sense for me but also a moral sense. As much as I want justice, heck I created a site to catch fugitives, I also still care about the notion that all men and women accused of a crime are innocent until proven guilty. While I'm not trying to beat around the bush since it doesn't apply in this case (I really mean that), there's been so many unsolved murders and missing cases on this forum where I personally think the person of interest me or someone else is talking about did it, but I still have to somehow find a way to say it "professionally" or say it without saying it if you know what I mean. And that is so much tougher than it sounds.
So while Bryan was the last to see Amanda alive that we know of, and despite what the police say, I'm sure those who read about the case still speculate about him, what we also know is he has been cooperative with investigators. And that is a key for me as to whether I feel free to open up and be more critical of a suspect or person gossiped about. As far as being helpful to officials, Bryan appears to be doing everything right- cooperating and maintaining his innocence.
So for the record, Bryan Westfall does not fall into category of one of those "I think they did it but can't say it outright" cases. I'm not sure what to think here. Are there some circumstantial "coincidences" that bother me such as Amanda disappearing the same day of the two meeting? Absolutely. However, at the moment he's not a suspect and is innocent until proven otherwise.
In my opinion, everything should be on the table from someone in Amanda's life to even a stranger abduction. Hopefully the FBI reward will eventually solve this case.
