Juan Chavez is wanted for the murder of Christine Caponigro.
Christine's body was discovered by authorities in an abandoned vehicle. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled to death with a rope. Two transients with criminal records were drinking nearby and had been interviewed. A saliva sample had been taken from one of the men, that individual being Juan Chavez. By the time they tried to interview Juan again, he had fled to either Iowa or Nebraska.
In August of 2007, the DNA sample from Juan was tested and matched the DNA profile at the crime scene. Juan then became the prime suspect in the case. The main problem was that Juan was arrested in Sioux City, Iowa in December of 2003. He was then deported to Mexico.
An official arrest warrant out of Cook County, Illinois was issued for Juan on March 25, 2008. A federal Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution warrant was also issued on May 29, 2008.
Based on crime location, it is advised to contact the Chicago Police Department at 312-746-6000 if you have any information on Juan Chavez's whereabouts.

Thoughts? As of today, May 15th, 2023, the UFAP warrant for Juan Chavez is still active in PACER, which confirms that Juan is still a fugitive.
Juan was profiled as part of the Chicago Tribune's Fugitives From Justice series in 2011, which detailed fugitive cases where the suspect was not being pursued effectively in a foreign country.
We already had Chavez on our forum but I am reposting this case from another poster because I misunderstood a request from a source to move it off the forum.
I want to stress we usually try to look up the names of homicide victims so the case isn't just about the fugitive but so they have a memory as well.
As frustrating as it is to wait, I hope one day Christine can get justice.
